The Public Employees Retirement System is recruiting for one (1) Office Specialist 2 (OS2) position in the Operations Division (OD), Calculations Section (CALC).

  • There is one full-time, permanent position.

  • This position is full-time in-office based at our headquarters office in Tigard, Oregon.

  • This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified applicants to fill the current vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

  • This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Operations Division (OD)

The PERS Operations Division provides services to PERS members along the entire life cycle of their public service career: from their first job with a PERS-participating employer until their retirement. The division helps ensure that PERS fulfills its mission to provide the right person the right benefit at the right time. The Operations Division supports four benefit programs for members of the three PERS plans (Tier One, Tier Two, and the Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan (OPSRP):

1. The lifetime pension.

2. The Individual Account Program (IAP).

3. The Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP).

4. The PERS Health Insurance Program (PHIP).

Calculations Section (CALC)

The Calculations Section is responsible for calculating all purchases, estimates, service retirements, withdrawals, disability, divorce, and death benefits for Tier One, Tier Two, OPSRP and IAP programs.

What you will be doing:

As the Office Specialist 2 (OS2), you will sort, update, and provide accurate documents, and information to external partners, members, and other appropriate parties. This position will process membership related documents and provide information to PERS members and to PERS member employers.

What Are We Looking For?

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR

An associate degree in any field; OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Strong organizational skills - Ability to anticipate and manage workflow. Stays organized to meet service-level agreements in a high-volume production environment.

  • Utilize analytical and problem-solving abilities – Pays attention to the details to accurately evaluate and enter data, identify discrepancies, and determine possible solutions. Makes decisions with supporting documentation and well-thought-out reasoning to produce highly accurate results.

  • Excellent communication skills - Strong oral and written communication with internal and external parties. Able to communicate in a clear and concise manner.

  • Self-motivated to work independently - Efficiently works with commitment to stay on task to meet or exceed standard expectations.

  • Professional - Consistently conducts themselves professionally in a team environment by being dependable, accountable, positive, and showing respect.  

  • Proficient in MS Office 365 – Able to utilize MS Word to enhance written and verbal communication to internal and external stakeholders.  Skilled in creating and editing documents and statistical analysis.

  • The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
