DaVita is searching for a dynamic physician leader to drive clinical excellence across the full spectrum of kidney care. This unique role sits at the intersection of Fee-for-Service (FFS) operations and Value-Based Care (VBC) innovation.

The successful candidate will oversee clinical strategy and operations for a designated business group, serving as the bridge between traditional dialysis operations (ESKD) and upstream Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) management. This leader will be responsible for driving superior clinical outcomes, mentoring medical directors, and developing innovative care delivery programs that function effectively across commercial payors and government programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Value-Based Care (CKD & ESKD)

  • Care Continuum Management: Lead clinical initiatives that span the entire patient journey, ensuring seamless transitions and management between CKD, ESKD, and transplant.
  • VBC Program Development: Partner with the Integrated Kidney Care (IKC) leadership to provide feedback on design and assist with implementation of innovative care delivery models that improve quality and lower costs for complex chronic conditions.
  • External Stakeholder Partnerships: Serve as an external-facing clinical subject matter expert to medical professionals, payors, health care systems, and government organizations to support growth and business development.
  • Population Health: Utilize data to assess quality, strength of evidence, and clinical results to drive population health management strategies across assigned markets.

Operational Excellence (Fee-for-Service/Dialysis)

  • Field Support & Outcomes: Partner with Group Vice Presidents and operational leadership to drive clinical performance, including the Clinical Leaderboard, DaVita Quality Index (DQI), and publicly reported data.
  • Medical Director Liaison: Serve as a subject matter expert, resource, and mentor for local medical directors within the assigned geography. Support onboarding, peer review processes, and navigating complex clinical situations.
  • Physician Engagement: Consistently lead outreach to physicians and practices; educate non-physician practitioners and partners to drive alignment on clinical goals.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Required: M.D., D.O., or MBBS degree.
  • Required: Board Certification in Nephrology.

Experience & Skills

  • Clinical Experience: Minimum 10 years of experience, with a background as a practicing nephrologist and experience as a dialysis medical director.
  • Hybrid Expertise: Demonstrated content knowledge in both operational dialysis therapies (Home and In-Center) and Value-Based Care (general internal medicine, population health, CKD management).
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading large healthcare teams and influencing without direct authority. Ability to work effectively with non-physician leadership.
  • Data Fluency: Ability to evaluate clinical outcomes, interpret complex data sets, and determine appropriate training/interventions to positively impact results.
  • Communication: Confidence as a speaker in multiple settings (executive, clinical, and commercial); ability to translate complex clinical data for diverse audiences.

Physical Demands & Travel

  • Travel: Ability to travel nationally (up to 40-50%) to build relationships, participate in internal/external meetings, and evaluate clinical care first-hand.
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise level (business office/clinics).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:

  • Ability to lift minimum of 2 pounds to a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted; able to sit for extended periods of time with some standing, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, lifting; moderate range of body motions

  • Ability to hear and interact by phone, in person, and in presentations clearly and efficiently

  • Ability to use computer and all peripherals as needed to meet goals

  • Ability to travel nationally

WORK ENVIRONMENT  

Level III - Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)

No required tasks involve greater exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues than would be encountered by a visitor. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids or other hazardous conditions.

The Salary Range for the role is $200,000.00 - $325,000.00 per year.

 

 

 

If a candidate is hired, they will be paid at least the minimum wage according to their geographical jurisdiction and the exemption status for the position.

New York Exempt: New York City and Long Island: $66,300.00/year, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties: $66,300.00/year, Remainder of New York state: $62,353.20/year New York Non-exempt: New York City and Long Island: $17.00/hour, Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties: $17.00/hour, Remainder of New York state: $16.00/hour

Washington Exempt: $80,168.40/year Washington Non-exempt: Bellingham: $19.13/hour, Burien: $21.63/hour, Everette: $20.77/hour, Unincorporated King County: $20.82/hour, Renton: $21.57/hour, Seattle: $21.30/hour, Tukwila: $21.65/hour, Remainder of Washington state: $17.13/hour
