Abbott Diabetes Care has opened a new site, in Kilkenny, that is at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology, to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision, FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

Main purpose of the role
The Occupational Health Nurse will contribute to the health and wellbeing of the employees of Abbott Diabetes Care, Kilkenny, through the effective implementation of Occupational Health programmes whilst providing exceptional care in an environment where quality, respect, caring, and compassion are at the centre of all we do. Works closely with the EHS and Site Services Manager Environmental, wider Abbott Management, and the Occupational Health Physician operate a first-class Occupational Health service that meets the needs of Abbott Diabetes Care, Kilkenny.
 
Main Responsibilities

  • Acts as a professional health resource for the site management in planning and maintaining initiatives and programs that meet defined goals and objectives.
  • Carry out medical surveillance in accordance with national and corporate requirements.
  • Provide a service for the medical management of accidents and illness at work.
  • Assists supervisors and employees with return-to-work issues including work restrictions, modified scheduling and job accommodations.
  • Conducts workplace walkthroughs/assessments and exposure follow-up.
  • Maintains and safeguards privacy and confidentiality of medical health information.
  • Participates in the development of related policies, procedures and work instructions.
  • Correspond with third parties including Corporate team & contractors, providing for professional reporting and timely submissions related to site updates when required.
  • Lead any site inspections as required.
  • Advise and guide employees on work related issues where appropriate.
  • Liaise with HR and management to ensure absenteeism through illness or injury is managed efficiently.
  • Carry out risk assessments, including physical and psychosocial factors.
  • Support Global OHS with reviewing of OH documents & Procedures as required.
  • Liaise with EHS to confirm medical surveillance is allocated correctly.
  • Liaise with EHS to ensure OH are provided with IH monitoring results.
  • Ensure all training is completed on time.
  • Be a champion for the health and wellbeing of employees.
  • Co-ordinate the First Aid & AED programme.
  • Organize positive health awareness and initiatives through education and health awareness programmes.
  • Act as company representative for employees Health Insurance Scheme with regard to health and well-being initiatives, mini medicals, annual flu vaccinations etc.
  • Utilise key elements of the EHS strategy to define the annual EHS goals and objectives, manage quarterly assessments of such goals and drive necessary action.

 
Qualifications/Experience

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with up-to-date NMBI registration.

  • Recognised Occupational Health qualification.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in an Occupational Health setting.

  • Job-Specific Competencies and Knowledge.

  • Familiar with Occupational Health practices, policies, and procedures, return to work, absence management and immunisations.

  • Competent in the use of IT programmes and databases. Familiarisation with the Cority occupational health IT system would be an advantage.

  • Ability to analyse and report.

  • Evidence of continuous professional development to maintain registration.

  • Personal Competencies.

  • Must be a strong team worker and work collaboratively.

  • Proactive, self-motivated, and assertive.

  • Must be able to communicate in an effective manner with all staff levels within the organisation.

  • This role requires a level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient.
