OB/GYN Nocturnist- MAHEC's OB/GYN Department

JOB SUMMARY:

The OBGYN Nocturnist is responsible for clinical care of general OB-GYN patients and supervision of residents, fellows, students, and mid-level care providers in ambulatory and hospital setting.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise Ob/Gyn residents, Family Practice residents, fellows, and students at Mission Hospitals on Labor and Delivery, as well as patients in the Emergency Room, Antepartum, and Postpartum, Operating room, and Post-operative setting.
  • Supervise certified nurse-midwives of MAHEC Ob-Gyn in Mission Hospitals.
  • Consult and collaborate with regional care providers seeking care for patients needing transport or with high acuity situations.
  • Provide collaboration and consultation for providers for whom MAHEC OB/GYN are the backup providers.
  • Provider collaboration and consultation as the Obstetric Hospitalist while fulfilling that role in Mission Hospitals.
  • Provide training and didactics on general obstetric and gynecologic topics.  Provides teaching topics for resident night float team.
  • Provide evaluation both formative and summative to residents and learners using myTIPreport.
  • Provide appropriate face to face feedback to residents and students in a professional and constructive manner.

CLINICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Provide care to patients at Mission Hospitals in a manner consistent with patient safety standards, and evidence based, using standard protocol’s consistent with MAHEC OB/GYN Department.
  • Be able to lead team of residents as well as guide chief resident in appropriate delegation of tasks and duties based on level of experience.
  • Ensure closed loop communication with other providers, faculty, subspecialists, learners, and staff.
  • Work three night shifts per week and/ or Shifts on an as needed basis:  5:45 pm to 8:00 am (continue care via attending check out at 7:00 each morning with L&D team). 
  • Being willing to alter schedule if needed based on holidays or MAHEC OB/GYN department faculty scheduling needs.
  • Awake and alert throughout shift and providing emergent care as Obstetric Safety Consultant role.

SPECIFIED SKILLS

  • COMPUTER
    • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.
  • FOREIGN LANGUAGE
    • Spanish speaking skills preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Board Certified Obstetrician/gynecologist in the full realm of the practice of specialty

REQUIRED LICENSES:

  • Board Certification or active candidate for certification by ABOG
  • Current North Carolina Medical License.
  • Hospital privileges at Mission Hospitals.
  • Current DEA certification.

SCHEDULE:

This position has business hours of 5:45pm-8am. Regular attendance on-site is an essential function of this position. Typical business hours for MAHEC are Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division); 40 hours per workweek; weekend, holiday, or evening coverage is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader.
