Must work every other weekend and every other holiday. Must work 2 12-hour shifts every week. (7a-7p)
Pay Range
$22.50 - $42.10Major Responsibilities: Demonstrates competence in maintaining the O.R. environment. 1)Prepares and maintains surgical field utilizing aseptic technique. 2)Checks case carts per physician preference cards. 3)Assembles supplies and equipment required for the procedures. 4)Assist with skin preparation and patient positioning. 5)Dismantles, cleans up of surgical field and rooms. 6)Assists the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, cutting suture and placing foley as required and instructed by the surgeons. 7)Applies surgical dressings. 8)Ensures proper instrument and equipment function. Demonstrates competency in delivery of patient plan of care. 1)Provides individualized care to meet the patient’s needs utilizing established departmental policies and procedures. 2)Demonstrates skills based on current surgical practice/standards. 3)Assesses, plans, delivers, and evaluates care for each patient based on developmental age of the patient ( infant, child, adolescent, adult, geriatric). 4)Establishes and organizes priorities to meet the patient’s condition. 5)Demonstrates appropriate action in emergency situations. 6)Clarifies and implements physician’s orders. 7)Communicate and maintains rapport with patients, families, coworkers and other associates. 8)Acts as a patient advocate. Coordinates and collaborates with physicians, health care team members, the patient and the patient’s family to ensure patient welfare. 9)Accesses specialized resources to deliver education to meet identified needs. Demonstrates leadership abilities. 1)Collaborates with peers to re-assign staff to meet patient and unit needs. 2)Displays problem-solving, decision making, decision sharing and conflict resolution to support team outcomes. Supports the Nursing Divisions philosophy and the goals of the patient care unit, Good Samaritan Hospital and Advocate system 1)Offers input into annual department goals. 2)Participates in councils either by offering ideas or serving as a member on a council. 3)Promotion of a professional atmosphere and risk taking environment. Education/Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent 1 years OR scrub experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Good interpersonal and communication skills. CPR certified. Certified Surgical Technologist certification will be obtained by the employee by sitting for the certification exam within 3 months of employment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: • Must be willing to work with exposures to body fluids, waste and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases • On-call availability (nights, weekends, holidays) • Rotating shifts • Ability to move heavy patients and equipment and to stand for long periods of time • Flexibility to deal with changing environments • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
