Job Summary
Acts as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Performs basic skills per hospital/unit guidelines and communicates observations to members of the health care team. Is responsible for preparing the obstetrical/gynecologic suite, handling obstetrical/gynecologic instruments intraoperatively and maintaining a sterile field for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures. Evaluates changing conditions during the obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and makes appropriate responses to them.
Essential Functions
Provides direct patient care under the direction of the RN, consistent with hospital policies and procedures and unit-based routines, informing patients about treatments, equipment utilized, and other related activities as appropriate. Collects and monitors data and reports physiological, psychological, socio-cultural and spiritual needs of patients and significant others in coordination with and as delineated by the RN documenting activities within areas of responsibility in an accurate and timely manner.
Prepares case tables with necessary equipment for obstetrical/gynecologic procedures and provides sterile instruments and supplies during obstetrical/gynecologic procedures. Participates in sponge, needle and instrument counts. Assists with preparation, cleaning and re-stocking of delivery tables.
Stocks operation room (OR) suites, patient rooms and sub-sterile areas with supplies/equipment/instruments according to written standard. Maintains a clean work area/unit and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department personnel.
Performs computer entry, schedules tests/procedures, processes orders, and performs other related activities per unit/hospital standard within a reasonable timeframe.
Maintains a clean unit environment/work area and maintains unit equipment including facilitating the repair of malfunctioning equipment with appropriate department/unit personnel. Prepares patient rooms per unit standard.
Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature. Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements.
Qualifications
Required
Required High School Diploma or equivalent
1 year of relevant experience in recent, relevant patient care Required
Previous experience with opening sterile supplies/instrument handling/autoclaving, etc. Preferred
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
CRT-Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA) - AAMA American Association of Medical Assistants Upon Hire preferred Or
CRT-Medical Assistant, Registered (RMA) - AMT American Medical Technologists Upon Hire preferred Or
CRT-Nursing Assistant - LARA-BCHS #N/A Upon Hire preferred Or
CRT-Clinical Hemodialysis Technologist, Certified (CCHT) - NNCC Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission Upon Hire preferred
