Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Directorate of nursing Mixed Med/Surg Unit with Pediatrics, Fort Carson, CO. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service.

Major Duties:

  • Takes accurate vital signs (i.e. blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature) and other required measurements (i.e. height, weight, etc.).
  • Assists with providing emotional, physical comfort and safety needs of patients.
  • Prepares patients and rooms for examinations and diagnostic tests; assists/chaperones patient care providers during examinations, procedures, treatments and diagnostic tests
  • Performs routine procedures in accordance with established standard operating procedures or physician’s instructions, blood pressure screenings, ear irrigation's, etc.
  • Records data on clinical records in accordance with established standard operating procedures.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Minimum Qualifications: Nursing Assistant GS-05: Experience required: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Assisting care providers during examinations, procedures, or treatments (i.e. throat/wound cultures, dressing changes, blood pressure screenings, ear irrigations, suture removal, bandaging, splinting, etc.) or assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL); maintaining patient medical records/charts; and obtaining vital signs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: Completion of at least a four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in nursing or related field of study. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total must equal at least 100% to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
