GCMC Emergency DepartmentOverview of Position:
Responsible for the workflow, performance, staff development and overall supervision of the emergency department under the direction of the Manager. Works closely with the Manager regarding staffing and scheduling, provides for continuous quality improvement and supervision of emergency department staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Works primarily on the floor, and acts as liaison with all staff and physicians.
2. Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient, takes and records measurements and readings and administers prescribed medications.
3. Helps determine staffing standards based on patient care needs, patient flow, medical acuity, procedures, and staff skills.
4. Assists with monitoring of all new employees.
5. Identifies potential problem areas, develops a system for objectively monitoring performance and creatively seeks solutions to foster quality improvement.
6. Establishes expectations and model behaviors that demonstrate service excellence to staff and focuses on the patient as the primary customer.
7. Demonstrates knowledge, skills and abilities related to patient care and normal procedures in the Emergency Department within own scope or practice as demonstrated by completion of annual competencies.
8. Willingly floats between campuses.
9. Understands department related information regarding operations, budgets, personnel reports and/or activities and develops action plans based on identified trends and variances.
10. Demonstrates effective human resources management. Responsible for appropriate recruitment, selection and retention of staff, attempting to minimize turnover of productive employees.
11. Delegates effectively by establishing clear expectations; maintains accountability with appropriate follow-up mechanisms.
12. Facilitates development of staff and motivates them to meet organizational, departmental and professional commitments.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Completion of an accredited nursing program and current Ohio RN Licensure.
2. BSN required.
3. Three (3) years clinical experience in assigned or related field.
4. Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
5. Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
6. Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan.
7. Attention to detail with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
8. Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others.
9. Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions.
10. Self-motivated and able to complete assigned tasks with minimal direction.
11. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
12. Has or obtains PALS, TNCC, ACLS, BCRA, and ENPC certification within 12 months of hire date, provided the appropriate classes are available/offered within this period.
