APPs in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit work daily alongside specialty neurointensivists and bedside critical care nurses to deliver high quality care to the sickest neurological patients in the region. Our team treats patients with severe neurological disease, ranging from large strokes and brain hemorrhages, inflammatory and infectious conditions, and refractory seizures to severe manifestations of neuromuscular diseases and its complications. Our multidisciplinary team approach to complex critical care neurology involves coordination of care with board certified neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, dedicated case management and social work, physical, occupational, and speech language therapists as well as consultative services throughout Albany Medical Center.

The APPs in the Neurosciences ICU perform daily patient assessments and physical examinations, reviews and interprets data pertinent to the care of their patient, liaises with consultative services as needed, participates in daily teaching rounds and executes the care plan each day. The Neurosciences ICU APP is trained in advanced cardiac life support as well as emergency neurological life support including management of brain codes and refractory seizures, ventilator management and critical care medicine principles, performance of transcranial doppler and bedside ultrasound, as well as placement of central venous catheters and arterial lines. There is an orientation period as well as regular educational opportunities for the APP within the Department of Neurology and the Division of Neurocritical Care.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Master’s degree program

· Current NYS licensure, Board Certified, and DEA registration

· Possess or obtain a National Provider Identifier (NPI) issued by the US Center for Medicaid and Medicare services

· Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills

· Professional demeanor and integrity
