GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner (PNP or FNP) is a registered nurse with advanced education and training in pediatrics. A Physician assistant is an advanced practice provider with advanced education and training in managing all ages. The PNP/PA provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to children and adolescents in the emergency department setting. The PNP/PA works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest quality of care for patients and their families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:                 

● Perform comprehensive physical examinations of children and adolescents in the
emergency department
● Diagnose and treat common pediatric illnesses and injuries
● Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as blood tests, X-rays, and imaging studies
● Develop and implement treatment plans for pediatric patients
● Educate patients and families about their health conditions and treatment options
● Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families
● Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide
comprehensive care
● Participate in quality improvement initiatives
● Stay up-to-date on current pediatric medical knowledge and best practices

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training: 

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies

Work Experience:

  • 2 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in a Pediatric Emergency or Pediatrics setting, preferred.
  • Previous nursing experience in Pediatric Emergency or Pediatrics preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • State of Michigan Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner, or Physician Assistant license required
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required
