Summary

The OB/GYN Nurse Practitioner provides advanced nursing care to women across the lifespan, with a focus on reproductive health, pregnancy, and gynecologic conditions. The NP works in collaboration with OB/GYN physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services.

Job Description

Perform well-woman exams, Pap smears, and routine gynecologic screenings. Manage common gynecologic concerns such as infections, menstrual disorders, contraception, and menopause. Provide prenatal and postnatal care in collaboration with supervising physicians. Conduct initial obstetric assessments, order and interpret prenatal labs and imaging. Educate patients on birth control options, family planning, pregnancy, and postpartum care. Assist in managing chronic conditions affecting reproductive health (e.g., PCOS, endometriosis). Support patients with infertility evaluations and treatment coordination. Provide urgent evaluations for early pregnancy complications or gynecologic emergencies. Participate in patient education and counseling, including lifestyle, nutrition, and wellness. Document all care in the electronic health record accurately and timely. Maintain clinical practice within scope of licensure and in compliance with organizational policies.

Qualifications

Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. If APRN was licensed prior to August 1, 1995, master's degree in nursing is preferred.

At least 1–2 years of experience in women’s health or OB/GYN setting preferred.

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in each state of practice. Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice. State Controlled Substance License (if required by State) National board certification as a Women's Health (WHNP-BC) Family (FNP-BC) or (FNP–C), Adult-Gerontology Primary Care (AGPCNP-BC) or (A-GNP), Adult (ANP-C) Obtains and subsequently maintains required specific competencies and certifications as outlined on privilege form. Privileging documents and related credentialing requirements will supersede this job description in defining minimum qualifications, criteria, and scope of practice, if variation between documents exists.
