Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician Assistant (PA), Sports Medicine

The Department of Orthopedics is recruiting for an experienced PA/NP to join 17 Surgeons and 22 PA/NP's on staff. This person will work closely with three Sports Medicine surgeons, four other Sports-dedicated PA/NPs, and collaboratively with all PA/NP associate staff colleagues. Major area of focus will be in sports medicine and general orthopedics. Basic duties may include: OR equipment set-up, first assisting, rounding with in-patients, emergency evaluations, post-op check-ups, outreach duties and general clinic practice. This position will have clinic primarily in Onalaska, OR/rounding responsibilities in La Crosse, along with some outreach to Winona, and possibly other regional locations as needed. The PA/NP will support the assigned surgeon with histories, physicals, casting, splinting, evaluations, treatment planning and post-op care. This role will work cooperatively with athletic trainers, physical therapists, nurses and support staff and share call equally. Wisconsin and Minnesota licenses and completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program is required.

The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) performs the functions of examining, assessing, planning, and implementing the health care of assigned patients under a licensed physician's supervision and direction. The Orthopedic PA/NP secures patient histories, performs physical examinations, orders laboratory tests, develops and implements treatment plans, performs diagnostic and treatment procedures, records findings, and provides patient education and counseling to enhance our effectiveness in providing routine therapeutic health care in the area of musculoskeletal disorders.

Must have completed an accredited program and be eligible to obtain a license to practice in our multi-state region with no restrictions or limitations.  Advanced practice clinicians work under the direct supervision of a physician.  Clinician staff may need to provide outreach service as part of their role in the system.  Teaching students, residents, fellows or clinical staff is cornerstone to our Medical Education philosophy and an expectation of all clinicians.
