Job Summary: You will serve as a NUCLEAR ENGNEER in the Equipment Branch (Code 2370.10, Nuclear Refueling Engineering Division (Code 2370), Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (Code 2300) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Major Duties:

  • You will provide engineering direction n support of reactor servicing shipboard procedures and/or TWDs/Lift Sketches in their assigned area of responsibility (AOR).
  • You will direct, control, monitor, interpret, and seek resolution on all matters pertaining to the effective conduct of production and engineering practices in their AOR.
  • You will provide technical content, radiological controls, administrative content, and ensure compliance with all local and Naval Sea Systems Command (NA VSEA) technical and safety requirements.
  • You will lead with duties involving distributing and balancing the workload among employees.
  • You will maintain status and progress of work, including reporting on expected time of completion of work.
  • You will maintain close liaison with the following reactor servicing personnel as applicable while resolving reactor servicing and/or component technical problems.
  • You will ensure technical subordinates meet their organizational goals and objectives in a mentoring capacity.
  • You will lead development of new knowledge and innovation within AOR.
  • You will prepare, review and approve off-yard correspondence to resolve drawing, procedure or reactor servicing technical manual issues and propose improvements.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience advising senior leadership or management on solutions for complex and unprecedented technical, administrative, or programmatic engineering challenges exercising technical control of refueling/defueling work performed on a project; Experience performing advance technical planning to prepare the shipyard to complete refueling/defueling operations; Experience authoring or reviewing formal technical documentation, such as engineering analyses, test procedures, work packages, or official briefings for a leadership audience; Experience managing the technical aspects of an engineering project, with work being accepted as technically authoritative without significant review; Experience negotiating and resolving conflicts with multiple stakeholders regarding technical requirements, work plans, or project schedules; Experience mentoring, coaching, or providing technical oversight to junior engineers and team members to develop their technical skills and increase the team's overall capabilities.
