NPI Manufacturing Test Engineer

How You Will Contribute:
As an NPI Manufacturing Test Engineer, reporting to the Manager of NPI RSP Test Engineering, you will play a pivotal role within the NPI Operations organization. You will support test development, provide insights from the factory floor, and contribute to sustaining and optimizing the production line. Your role will involve identifying yield-impacting issues, proposing corrective actions, and implementing solutions to improve test performance and capacity.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams such as other Test Engineers, Process Engineers, Product Engineers, Contract Manufacturers, and Operators, you will work with internal and external partners to achieve key product performance criteria during the product lifecycle. You will provide technical expertise and opinions on test hardware and software architecture.

You will oversee the manufacturing floor at our Bangkok area Contract Manufacturing partner, identifying areas for improvement in operator handling, test efficiency, and test hardware. You will help develop tools and instructions to refine automation processes and improve scalability in product manufacturing. This role requires on-site presence one to two days per week, with the remainder working from a home office.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive continuous improvement for product yields, test time, and cost reduction.
  • Enhance fault isolation, failure analysis, and troubleshooting tools for Engineers and Operators.
  • Assist with production scaling, including GR&R, optimization, commissioning, maintenance, and qualification activities for Ciena’s PON and DCOM products.
  • Support CM teams in failure analysis, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Apply technical understanding of testing and manufacturing processes for transceiver components, both optical and electrical.
  • Work independently in a fast-paced environment with reliability and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to learn.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or Physics.
  • Solid understanding of optical concepts such as insertion loss and polarization.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, including schematics and board files.
  • Programming experience in Python.
  • Experience with manufacturing software development.
  • Fluency in Thai and English (written and verbal).
  • Able to travel to Canada/United States.

Assets:

  • Proficiency in Linux OS environments.
  • Programming experience in C#.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement/continuous development workflows and tools such as Jira, GitHub, and Docker.
  • Expertise in databases and data analysis tools.
