WOOD-TV8 is looking for its next legend.  We’re searching for an on-air personality who can co-anchor our top rated newscasts and reach a growing audience on our streaming app. Grand Rapids is a top 45 market. This is not an entry-level position. We’re looking for someone who’s been a lead anchor in other markets, with the skills to be a great storyteller in the field.  This position requires someone who’s a social media rock star, and above all, an individual who brings a positive attitude and a drive to win. You’ll be expected to develop relationships with contacts, dig up story ideas, and follow and break the biggest news stories in West Michigan!  All resumes must include a link to your on-air reel.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Must have solid vocal delivery and engaging camera presence.
  • Ensures that all news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Writes and delivers news stories in a clear and concise manner.
  • Must have the ability to report on stories of all topics, especially breaking news, generate story ideas, display an on-air presence that is friendly and authoritative, and have a high-level of engagement on all social media platforms.
  • Demonstrates compelling storytelling through anchor reads, dynamic live shots and stand-ups, creative graphics and use of digital and social media platforms.
  • Create digital content for WOODTV+ and WOODTV.com.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree.
  • Three years television anchoring and three years reporting experience required.
  • Understand importance of social media.
  • Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel.
  • Superior on-air presence.
  • Excellent news judgement with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers and issues.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

The Anchor/Reporter must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, and work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
