Education
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills
Knowledge of equipment and skills required to screen a newborn utilizing current test methods including otoacoustic emission (OAE), screening auditory brainstem response (SABR) or any future technology that becomes available.
Ensures EVERY eligible infant is screened prior to discharge as mandated by the State of Maryland Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program (Md. Code Ann., Health Gen. §13-602).
Reports hearing screening results and any identified risk factors for late onset hearing loss to parents objectively in a culturally sensitive manner through dialog in the parents preferred language.
Proficient in basic computer skills as required to document test results in the hospital’s electronic medical record and the Maryland Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program database.
Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with medical staff.
Organizational skills with ability to prioritize
Licensures, Certifications
Optional and not required for initial hiring: completion of National Center for Hearing Assessment and Management (NCHAM) Newborn Hearing Screening Training Curriculum.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk and carry screening equipment. Light physical lifting as needed utilizing appropriate body mechanics to avoid injury.
Working Conditions
Normal office or patient care areas in the hospital environment with possible exposure to human waste, blood and other body secretions. There may be exposure to communicable or infectious diseases that may require defined precautions for protection from illness or injury.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Screening all newborn infants for hearing located in any of the following hospital units: Mother-Baby (U25-26), Newborn Nursery (U23), Special Care Nursery (U22), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (U37), Labor and Delivery (U28) or Pediatrics (U39).
Maintains various aspects of universal newborn hearing screening program including maintaining equipment, supplies and potentially training new hires. Able to complete basic troubleshooting of current screening equipment.
Readily available to hospital unit staff during duty shift i.e., charge nurses as it relates to service delivery, documentation or follow-up for infants. Participates in staff in services, meetings or training as needed.
Documents screen results manually on daily tracking sheets, current hospital electronic medical record system (Epic) and Maryland State database.
Maintains clean shared office space.
Completes annual competencies.

Pay Range
$16.63 - $21.06Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
