The Newark Site Lead directs and controls all aspects of the Newark Engineering Plastics (EP) Facility for the North American Region including the production of compounded Makrolon, Bayblend, Makroblend and Apec resins.
The role is accountable for the Newark site departments including Manufacturing, HSEQ, Reliability, Quality Assurance, Color Development, Process and Product Development, Human Resources, Procurement, Utilities, Warehousing/Logistics, site security and Controlling. The Site Lead ensures compliance with corporate policies and government regulations and represents Covestro to the general public, local organizations, and government entities. The position provides coordination of overall site activities at the Newark Site and leads the Newark Site Leadership Team.
Major Responsibilities
Provides leadership to ensure safe and reliable operations for production, maintenance, engineering, quality control, process improvement, product scale-up and logistics for compounded Makrolon, Bayblend, Makroblend and Apec resins
Identifies, defines, and realizes needed optimizations of HSEQ performance, process efficiency, quality performance, and costs for the site
Develops and implements a medium and longterm asset and site strategy in-line with the NA and global EP business and operations strategy
Develops, designs, and implements capital projects to meet the requirements of North American Market demand as well as HSEQ requirements, legal responsibilities, reliability needs, capability changes, and cost efficiency goals
Provides knowhow, resources and quick response to customer needsin conjunction with the Color Development Center (CDC); new product developments; and customer complaint responses
Ensures that Covestro Newark operations fully comply with all laws, corporate, local and group guidelines and regulations
Coaches, develops and ensures site personnel are competent and motivated to meet business objectives. Identifies succession plans and develops the organization. Guides as a role model of “what makes us Coverstro” (WMUC)
Represents the interests of Covestro and Newark Operations to the media, local, state, and federal governmentand local community stakeholders. Works in the community to ensure that Covestro is an employer of choice and works through organizations to raise the level of manufacturing talent in the area.
Member of the Engineering Plastics Global Operations Team and responsible for the management of all EP manufacturing topics in North America
Serves on the North American Engineering Plastics Leadership Team as well as Global EP communities
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technical Field and at least 10 years of relevant experience OR preferred Master's degree in Engineering or Technical Field and at least 8 years of relevant experience
Relevant experience includes Broad functional experience in Production, Technology, HSE
5+ years managing teams with demonstrated experience in multi-level leadership, including direct management of supervisory personnel who have their own direct reports.
Preferred Qualifications
In-depth experience in the plastics or polymer manufacturing industry
Knowledge in Lean Six Sigma Methodologies
Experience in Marketing, Product Management, Product and Process Development, Safety, Controlling , and Administration
Experience in a business leadership role of large diverse groups
Experience interacting with state and governmental authorities
Experience leading and developing personnel
Experience working in a global organization
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong leadership: Target oriented, performance driven, open listener and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, working with external partners as well as senior level management in the NA region and Covestro global.
Strong analytical, organizational, planning, and project management skills.
