Renishaw’s Encoder Products Division (EPD) designs and supplies cutting-edge position feedback technology to the world’s precision measurement, automation, and manufacturing industries. It is highly likely that something you own contains a part or device that was manufactured with the help of one of Renishaw’s encoder products.

EPD is made up of engineers, scientists and technicians all working together to produce market leading products for sale around the world. We start with cutting edge optical, algorithm and circuit designs, developing our own ASICs and sensors where required. We then use innovative mechanical engineering to turn our core technology into a range of desirable products for our broad customer base.

Working closely with colleagues in our manufacturing division, we develop manufacturing and assembly processes and software to deliver quality products by the hundreds of thousands that in turn, perform reliably and repeatedly to sub-micron accuracies for our customers.

We are recruiting for a New Product Introduction Engineer whose primary responsibility is to design, develop and productionise new products and processes. Working at the interface between design and production this role offers an exciting opportunity in a very interesting industry. For the right candidate there is potential for career progression and development as the division grows.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing and introducing processes for the automated assembly and testing of new products.

  • Working alongside the wider design team, developing strategies for the assembly of new products.

  • Ensuring new processes are safe, controlled, robust, capable and efficient.

  • Utilising production control technology within the process where appropriate.

  • Reporting and documenting the development and introduction of the process ready for transfer to manufacturing.

  • Supporting product and process verification and validation for the design team.

Key requirements

  • Degree level education in a relevant technical discipline such as, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Systems Engineering. Or a HNC/HND level education with significant experience in a related engineering field.

  • Experience with design of electro-mechanical systems: integration of robotics, PLCs, pneumatic/electronic drives etc.

  • An understanding of mechanical tooling and fixture design

  • Good PC skills and the ability to work with minimal support

Desirable requirements

  • A working knowledge and understanding of Siemens NX CAD or a similar equivalent CAD package.

  • Understanding of relational databases e.g., SQL

  • Experience working with optical systems

  • Knowledge of DfA/DfM, Process FMEA or Six Sigma

  • Knowledge of production assembly techniques and their application to assembly processes.

  • Knowledge of PLCs and vision systems, automated systems

Person specification

The successful applicant will have a strong technical background with a hands‑on approach. They will be able to demonstrate success in the support and development of complex, technically challenging processes. They will have a good attention to detail and the determination and tenacity to resolve technical challenges where a solution is not immediately apparent.
