Network Security Architect

As a Senior Network & Cloud Security Architect at ING, you will play a key role in shaping enterprise‑wide security solutions that enable the business to move fast and safely. You’ll work at the intersection of strategy, technology, and risk—designing security architectures that are measurable, automated, and future‑proof, while directly contributing to ING’s global cybersecurity posture.

The team

You will join the Security Strategy & Architecture department within the ING Office of the CISO. This team ensures that ING’s business strategy and cybersecurity implementations remain continuously aligned, taking into account risk appetite, cost targets, regulations, and technology evolution.

Working closely with Domain Architects, Enterprise Architects, and global stakeholders, your work enables secure digital transformation across ING. The team culture is collaborative, analytical, and impact‑driven, with a strong focus on knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Roles and responsibilities

In this role, you will take ownership of designing and steering security architecture for global programs. Your key responsibilities include:

• Designing and guiding network, access, and cloud security architectures across on‑premise and public cloud environments
• Verifying architecture implementation and ensuring solutions align with ING’s global security standards
• Developing security norms and controls, preferably in security‑as‑code formats, enabling automated enforcement and measurement
• Leading the delivery of architecture artefacts at conceptual and logical levels
• Assessing network security designs and operations, identifying risks, improvements, and future‑proof solutions
• Formulating hypotheses, testing solutions, and drawing conclusions to select appropriate global security services
• Maintaining and evolving global security standards, keeping pace with technological, organizational, and market developments

• Design robust security architectures for networks, access control, and public cloud at enterprise scale
• Translate complex security concepts into clear architectural decisions that balance risk, cost, usability, and scalability
• Apply hands‑on experience with network security technologies (e.g. firewalls, VPN, SD‑WAN, IDS/IPS, DDoS mitigation)
• Embed automation and security‑as‑code using tools such as Ansible, DSC, pipelines, and repositories
• Operate confidently in large, complex organizations, influencing stakeholders and collaborating across domains
• Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, presenting architectural choices, risks, and trade‑offs in fluent English
