Job Expectations

Build your career and Australia’s future.

Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.

We have an exciting opportunity at nbn, as the Network Engineer, Network Management Centre (NMC), reporting to a Network Manager NMC.

A bit about your role

The Network Management Centre (NMC) is responsible for managing the availability of the nbn network, meeting Wholesale Broadband Agreement (WBA) uptime targets, and supporting exceptional customer outcomes during unplanned network and service events.

As a Network Engineer NMC, you play a critical role in providing technical expertise across all nbn‑managed technologies and in the continuous development and improvement of network restoration processes. Working within a 24x7 operational environment, you support automation and simplification initiatives and collaborate closely with Delivery Partners and internal stakeholders to resolve complex issues, escalations, and emergency events.

The role is accountable for the end‑to‑end management of Network Incidents, Escalated Service Incidents, and High‑Priority Network‑at‑Risk events. This includes coordinating internal, external, and senior stakeholder escalations, supporting Enterprise and Government services, and consolidating outage activities to deliver effective customer and business outcomes.

This position requires the ongoing development of broad, technology‑agnostic capability, with sufficient depth to operate autonomously across Core, Aggregation, and Multi‑Technology Mix (MTM) environments, including Access technologies.
This role requires an ability to work in a 24x7x365 shift environment, in a rotating roster, working public holidays as rostered.

A bit about you

The role requires strong experience in telecommunications or network operational environments, with demonstrated technical competence and experience working with telecommunications systems and tools.

The candidate should have experience working in a 24x7x365 rotating shift roster environment, with the ability to operate effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities in a highly structured operational setting.

You should hold industry‑recognised certification in routing, switching, and other core aggregation technologies, along with Access technologies including HFC and FTTx. Having ITIL v3 Foundation certification or working experience within an ITIL environment is preferred.

You bring working knowledge and end‑to‑end understanding of these technologies and relevant network protocols, enabling you to diagnose, coordinate, and resolve complex network and service incidents across multiple technology domains.

The role demands high attention to detail, a process‑driven approach, high‑level negotiation skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels and work autonomously in a critical operational environment.
