Job Description

The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, analysis, and maintenance of the Bank’s network infrastructure. This includes internal and external communication networks, mobile and fixed networks, public and private connectivity, Internet/Intranet services, and call centre environments. The role ensures high availability, security, and continuous improvement of network services to enhance overall service delivery.

Network Design & Implementation

  • Design, document, and implement network solutions, policies, and application frameworks aligned with organisational objectives and industry best practices.

  • Execute approved network changes during scheduled maintenance windows, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.

  • Support the deployment and optimisation of LAN, WAN, wireless, and voice network environments.

Network Monitoring, Testing & Analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive network testing and performance analysis to identify risks, vulnerabilities, and improvement opportunities.

  • Establish and maintain network performance benchmarks for latency, utilisation, availability, and reliability.

  • Monitor network health using appropriate tools and take proactive action to prevent service degradation.

Operations, Risk & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify operational risks and performance gaps, and design and implement corrective or preventative interventions.

  • Ensure network stability, security, and compliance with internal standards and controls.

  • Contribute to continuous service improvement through automation, optimisation, and adoption of new technologies.

Documentation & Stakeholder Support

  • Produce and maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.

  • Provide technical support and collaborate with internal teams and service providers to resolve network-related issues.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders on network performance, incidents, and planned changes.

Learning & Development

  • Actively pursue personal and professional development through training, certifications, and exposure to emerging technologies.

  • Regularly assess performance, seek feedback, and implement improvement actions to enhance technical capability and service delivery.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.

  • Hands-on experience with network hardware and solutions, including Cisco and Huawei.

  • Experience with Cisco Telephony solutions (e.g. PCCE) and Cisco wireless infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools such as SolarWinds.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with strong documentation capability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, HCIA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent.

Experience

  • 1–3 years’ experience in a network administration or network engineering role.
