The Network Engineer position directly supports all the AES Clean Energy networks, firewalls, switches, and related network equipment. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards and AES Global Standards.
The Network Engineer serves as a key point of contact and technical expert supporting the AES Clean Energy Assets. They will manage project network documentation, and remediation activities and communicate compliance results to OT Management Team.
This position is a NERC-regulated position. As such, a background check in the form of a Transport Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) is required for this position.
The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of routers, firewalls, business-to-business tunnels, and switches. In addition, a strong working knowledge of secure networking concepts is required. An understanding of the NERC CIP Standards is a definite plus. This position requires excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and the ability to perform duties effectively under emergency situations.
Responsibilities
Design and deploy Cisco network infrastructure (routers, switches, and firewalls) across multiple renewable energy sites.
Configure and maintain Cisco Firepower/FTD firewalls and Cisco SD-WAN architecture.
Build and monitor IPsec/GRE tunnels between data centers, substations, and field devices.
Ensure high availability and redundancy across primary and secondary data centers.
Manage site connectivity (private circuits, LTE failover, and remote access).
Support SCADA network integration and ensure segmentation between IT and OT networks.
Implement network monitoring, logging, and alerting for uptime and security.
Coordinate with vendors for network commissioning and troubleshooting.
Maintain accurate network documentation, IP plans, and device inventory.
Assist in cybersecurity compliance (e.g., NERC CIP or company internal policies).

Travel up to 25% for project deployments, site support, and network cutovers.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in network engineering, preferably in OT/industrial or energy environments.
Strong understanding of Cisco IOS/FTD and Viptela SD-WAN configuration.
Experience building and troubleshooting VPNs, DMVPN, and IPsec tunnels.
Familiar with network segmentation, VLANs, NAT, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP).
Solid grasp of firewall rules, security zones, and remote access configurations.
Experience working with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850) is a plus.
Ability to work in field environments during commissioning and support remote site deployment.
Proficiency in network documentation and change management.
Preferred
CCNA/CCNP, PCNSE, or equivalent certifications.
Experience in OT/industrial environments.
