Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – Lab Network Engineer (25-578) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Located in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is vital in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

 

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

 

Position Overview:

 

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the central part of the Missile Defense System. It is a crucial operational system that allows the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan missile defense operations systematically, track battle developments, and actively coordinate networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve both global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that provides an optimized response to threats across all ranges and phases of flight. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations worldwide and regionally to enhance performance. C2BMC is vital in all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of the missile defense system.

The candidate will serve as a primary Network Engineer supporting the C2BMC Program. In this role, they will act as both a Network Engineer and Developer, assisting with network build-out and deployments into the operational environment as needed. The candidate will collaborate within an agile Scrum team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements.

Essential Functions:

 

  • Must have prior experience with presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools

  • Must have experience working collaboratively with a team of highly motivated network engineers, as well as independently on large field projects

  • A self-motivated individual with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be a proven network engineer with practical mid-level experience and knowledge of network design, development, and testing methodologies

  • Proven experience in network traffic analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshooting

  • Understanding of standard DOD security practices, such as STIG compliance and system accreditation efforts

  • Experience working with Firewalls and IPS/IDS

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree

  • Applicants must have a current, active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, CCNA-Security, CySA+, CND, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their DoD 8140 certification throughout the entire contract period

  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% for business needs

  • Industry vendor certifications from Juniper (JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE) are a must

  • Be very familiar with the following:

    • TCP/IP Model

    • OSI Model

    • Multicast

    • Firewalls

    • Routing Protocols

    • Experience with capturing and deciphering packets (50% of testing efforts involve packet capture and analysis)

    • Network Address Translation (NAT)

    • Network Timing, and the ability to read technical network diagrams

  • Experience with Juniper and/or Cisco networking equipment required

  • A solid understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF

  • Experience with UDP multicast, VLANs, GRE tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Candidates with previous C2BMC network experience are highly preferred

  • Candidates with knowledge, skill sets, or experience using protocol analyzers or sniffers (such as Wireshark)

  • Previous experience in authentication and encryption methods and capabilities (TACACS+, Active Directory, GEM-X), virtualization technologies such as VMWare, vCenter, and vSphere

  • Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) certifications are a plus

  • Familiarity with virtualization is highly recommended

  • Agile development and associated testing methodologies

  • Automated testing frameworks such as Python, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet

  • Handling large data sets, spreadsheet analysis, and related tools

  • Develop action plans based on data analysis, document deficiency reports, and present analysis results and plans of action either verbally or in writing (e.g., slides, annotated slides, test report document)

  • Hands-on experience with WAN optimizer, TACLANEs and optical transport equipment

  • A strong understanding of JUNOS is preferred

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
