Job Summary: This vacancy is for a GS-0871-14, Naval Architect located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, MAJOR SYSTEMS ACQUISITION PRGM MGR -POLAR ICEBREAK -CG-9326 in WASHINGTON, District of Columbia.

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Naval Architect and expert advisor and consultant to officials and managers within or outside the agency on a broad range of engineering and management activities and broad policy issues. You will also provide on-site technical oversight in accordance with established procedures in support of surface ship design and construction programs. Being a CG civilian makes you a valuable member of the CG team. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and evaluating the technical aspects of all naval architect/structure that include but are not limited to detailed work procedures, construction drawing, internal shipyard and contractor process requirements, testing, and shipyard/contractor responsible technical manuals. Coordinating the development of design and production for large multi-purpose projects for systems or mission-related conversion, maintenance, or construction of vessels. Preparing asset specific plans for all Test and Evaluation events, gathering input from field sites, operational sponsors or other stakeholder units. Analyzing budget and procurement actions for large and complex projects, focusing on project funding, proper application of the principles of engineering economics, and economic analysis. Leading, conducting or participating in complex studies and reviews, particularly those with wide or significant effect upon agency's organizational structure, policy, processes, operations, fiscal control and economy and those where the boundaries of the studies may be broad.

Qualifications: Basic Requirements: This position has a positive Education Requirement in addition to at least one year of Specialized Experience or substitution of education for experience or combination (if applicable) in order to be found minimally qualified. You MUST meet the following requirements: EDUCATION: AND To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal or private sector. Specialized experience may include the following: Reviewing and evaluating the technical aspects of all naval architect/structure Coordinating the development of design and production for multi-purpose projects for systems or mission-related conversion, maintenance, or construction or vessels. Providing expertise in engineering methods, applications, processes and procedures to maintain integrity of test and evaluation. Preparing, analyzing and/or presenting all aspects of acquisition program management. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
