Job Summary:
The Level IV Natural Gas Pipeline Operator is a senior-level operations professional responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of natural gas pipeline systems and associated facilities. This role serves as a technical expert and field leader, providing advanced troubleshooting, operational guidance, and mentorship to junior personnel while ensuring compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company standards.
The Level IV oversees complex pipeline operations, including supporting compression, measurement, gas quality control, and system balancing. They play a critical role in system integrity, outage response, and operational optimization across gathering, transmission (if applicable), and midstream assets. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment, leadership capability, and deep technical knowledge of pipeline systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor natural gas pipeline systems, pigging operations, Damage Prevention, Public Awareness, and associated equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance
Lead response efforts for abnormal operating conditions, alarms, and emergency situations, including shutdowns and system restoration
Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on pipeline, and control systems
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., PHMSA, DOT) and company policies
Conduct and oversee routine inspections, maintenance coordination, and operational audits
Analyze system data (pressures, flows, volumes) to optimize throughput and maintain system balance
Support integrity management programs, including leak detection, corrosion control, and right-of-way monitoring
Serve as a subject matter expert for control systems such as SCADA and field instrumentation
Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to Level 1–3 operators and contractors
Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, Projects and control room personnel to execute operational plans
Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions and complete AAR’s.
Maintain accurate operational records, logs, and compliance documentation
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
7–10+ years of experience in natural gas pipeline operations or related midstream operations
Demonstrated expertise in Damage Prevention, pipeline pigging, and pipeline systems
Strong working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards
Proficiency with SCADA systems, control valves, and instrumentation
Proven leadership ability and experience mentoring others
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within operating area
