The UCL Team Leader manages a field team with clinical and commercial expertise within Ultragenyx's commercial & access team. Ultragenyx's UCLs ensure patients receive disease education, increases the company's awareness, and support patient identification within the medical community. The primary goal is to ensure all eligible patients can access therapies from the Ultragenyx portfolio in their territory by supporting physicians with requests and approvals and facilitating therapy initiation and maintenance through access programs. The UCL Team Leader develops national and territory-specific plans to expand patient reach, maintain treatment, and support access to care. Responsibilities include coordinating patient identification initiatives, supporting local Identified Patient Program (NPP) activities, and maintaining accurate data in the CRM system. The role also requires collaboration with Commercial and Market Access Managers (KAMs), ensuring effective communication between medical and administrative teams, and confirming that Marketing provides materials and actions that meet field needs. The position involves traveling overnight as needed.
Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx.
1. Lead and coach the national UCL field team to set, evaluate and exceed performance expectations.
2. Set National and Territories strategic and tactical plans and ensure execution of UCL´s action plans.
3. Define, balance and keep track of assigned territories to UCLs to maximize opportunities and accelerate execution to achieve business goals.
4. Strict Follow up every case with diagnosis with other functional areas (Business Ops, PSP and Commercial & Access -KAMs-) to avoid delays and maximize treatment adherence and purchase compliance and improve our participation in tenders and contracts increasing based on demand requirements for each hospital.
5. Follow up and keep track of projects advancement and report periodically to ensure every opportunity is seized.
6. Design UCL development plans and establish a culture of continuous improvement.
7. Act as the field team representative for brand planning, revenue forecasting and market insights gathering.
8. Provide frequent feedback to UCLs regarding expectations, accomplishments, and areas of improvement.
9. Maintain a culture of compliance, integrity, and transparency.
10. Ensure the team keeps Veeva database up to date in a timely manner
1. Minimum - bachelor’s degree in science or business, MBA and/or Medical Degree with ~8 years of Rare Diseases and business skills experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or healthcare industry required.
2. Passionate about helping patients to get the right diagnosis and to gain access to the best treatment through developing strategic plans with each account to develop top level medical relationships.
3. Extensive experience working on government accounts, under high levels of uncertainty and demands; know how to build networks of influence between functional areas (KAMs) and external clients.
4. Bilingual- Spanish/Portuguese and English preferable.
5. Relevant experience in the rare disease space encompassing patient identification and establishment of KOL networks is highly desirable but not essential.
6. Will consider credential candidates with current relevant clinical - government & commercial experience within the rare disease space.
7. Proven ability to work independently as well as build rapport with cross-functional teams.
8. Must be action-oriented, a problem solver, patient and customer focused possess excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.
9. Position is field-based and will require 50% travel including overnight business travel.
