This position is supporting Cardiology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, and Rheumatology clinics. Our team is comprised of RNs, LPNs, CMAs and PCTs, working together to provide holistic health care to adult patients - administering vaccinations, point of care testing, and coordination of care with other specialties.

Job Description

  • Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients in a clinical practice. Triages patients and prepares for physician exams and procedures. Assists with exam, procedures and treatments as necessary. Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.  

  • Observes, records and reports patient’s physical and psychosocial condition, reactions to medication and treatments to physician. Responds to and triages phone calls. Call in orders appropriately as ordered by physician. Instructs patient as ordered by the physician regarding treatment and/or medication. Responsible for monitoring and distribution of medication including samples and controlled substances. 

  • Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff members. Makes age appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs. Uses established outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness of care. Maintains timely flow of patient, assists with scheduling of appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability. Screens patients for appropriate information and provides patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment. 

  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and any other pertinent information, communicating as appropriate. Posts test and exam results. Communicates Plan of Care to the patient including formal development of patient education materials as necessary. 

  • Assumes personal responsibility for quality patient care, environment and professional development. Fulfills preceptor role according to SCN Policy. Uses formal and informal methods to teach staff. Independently evaluates own practice and goals, initiates discussion with immediate supervisor of own performance. Provides written practice goals for the upcoming year at evaluation time. A monitor progress towards, and provides evidence of goals within established time frame. Provides evidence of contact hour CEU’s or relevant academic courses. 

  • Takes action and coaches others in resolving ongoing problems and clinic issues, develops and implements recommendations to improve clinic environment. Critically evaluates and develops recommendations for evidence based new and revised standards of nursing care. Effectively manages conflict by confronting the issue or problem and collaborating with others to explore and implement acceptable solutions. 

  • Demonstrates and coaches subordinate staff in fiscal accountability during daily clinical practice, while providing quality care. Reviews and analyzes current nursing literature as a basis for improving practice while participating in Performance Improvement activities.

Additional Job Description

Education and Work Experience 

Bachelor of Nursing degree and a minimum of two years of work experience as a registered nurse required. Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required 

 

Degree of Supervision 

Works independently under the direction of a physician and clinic management. Leads and directs clinical staff. 

 

Licensures, Registrations, Certifications 

Current South Carolina RN license and BLS required. Post graduate certification in area of clinical specialty desired. 

 

Physical Requirements  

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
