Job Description

  • What is the opportunity?

    The role will support the Investment Banking Municipal Finance team at RBC

    What will you do?

  • The Municipal Finance Analyst provides analytical, research and transactional support to investment bankers in all departmental work activities relating to the structuring and issuance of municipal bonds through negotiated, competitive sale or via private placement.
  • Developing financial models, pitch book materials and conducting rating research, and analyzing data to help advise our current or prospective municipal clients on actual or prospective bond issuances
  • Prepare proposals and participate in presentations for prospective clients, describing in detail financing alternatives in originating, structuring and marketing an issue and our ability to perform the underwriting functions in a capable manner.
  • Prepare projections, bond / loan portfolio analysis and modeling & related financial analyses for potential & actual capital markets transactions, including data conversion, synthesis & analysis.
  • Coordinates the various activities, internal and external, relating to pricing and settlement of public finance transactions. Works closely with management and Investment Bankers to secure closings.
  • Develop an understanding of economic and political forces affecting the issuance bonds and the bond market through internal and external resources.
  • Transaction execution, new business presentations and meetings, market research and developing sector-based knowledge on current trends
  • Proactively identify operational risks / control deficiencies in the business
  • Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to group business activities
  • Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks to group line manager and the relevant risk and control functions on a timely basis
  • Other such duties, responsibilities and authority as may be reasonably required
  • What is needed for success?

  • BA/BS degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Economics.
  • Previous experience in Municipal Finance or relevant sector is a plus
  • Solid understanding of capital markets and spreadsheet modeling
  • Outstanding quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; strong knowledge of finance and accounting
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests
  • Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong teaming skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels of organization
  • Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
  • Obtain and maintain Securities Industry Essentials Exam (SIE), Series 52, 63 and 79 licenses

    The good-faith expected salary range for the above position is $105,000 to $115,000 depending on class year and factors including but not limited to the candidate’s experience, skills, registration status; market conditions; and business needs. This salary range does not include other elements of total compensation, including a discretionary bonus and benefits such as a 401(k) program with company-matching contributions; health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; and paid time-off plan.
