Your New Role…
CNN Weather is seeking a Multimedia Designer to bring creative energy and visual excellence to our digital products. This role blends static and motion illustration, shaping how audiences experience and learn about weather phenomena, forecasts and climate change.
This person will join one of CNN’s most innovative, multi-platform teams, working directly with meteorologists, climate experts and video producers to bring visual beauty to our storytelling, including topics such as hurricanes, blizzards, tornado outbreaks and geomagnetic storms. The ideal candidate is fascinated by the natural world, thrives in a fast-paced news environment and has their finger on the pulse of emerging trends.
Finally, this person must embody the CNN Climate & Weather team’s ethos — we are looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented collaborator who takes pride in their work, values diversity and elevates their colleagues.
Your Role Accountabilities…
Pitch and create beautiful, high-impact still and animated graphics for the CNN Weather platforms
Collaborate with meteorologists, climate reporters and producers to bring clarity and elevated aesthetic to complex phenomena
Rapidly respond with relevant graphics and motion assets when breaking weather news happens
Champion creative approaches to visualization and motion storytelling, exploring new formats and tools
Work with lead designers to help maintain and advance our visual brand identity across CNN Weather
Manage multiple design requests with speed and efficiency under deadline, while maintaining accuracy and creative quality
Qualifications & Experience…
Degree in graphic design, motion design, visual communications or related field — or equivalent professional experience
Strong composition, layout and branding skills with a modern design sensibility
Expertise in Figma and exporting plugins; Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator); Cinema 4D or 3D experience
Experience working collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
An eye for editorial tone and accuracy in news or scientific storytelling
Experience designing for digital and social video platforms preferred
Exceptional organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
A passion for science and visual storytelling
