Job Title: Multi-Disciplinary Patient Care Assistant

Hours: 40 hours per week
Shifts: 8 hour days ranging between 7:30 am - 7:00pm on a 6 week rota basis, plus 1 in 6 Saturdays.
Some night shift cover is required to cover annual leave, typically on 1-2 weeks per year.
Are you passionate about animal care and looking to develop your career in a busy veterinary hospital? Paragon Referrals is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant (PCA) to join our supportive team. You’ll provide hands-on care for dogs, cats, and other patients while assisting veterinary surgeons and nurses with daily procedures.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their knowledge in veterinary nursing, including surgical, medical, emergency, and inpatient care.
Deliver high-quality patient care, including feeding, walking, grooming, administering medications (under supervision), and monitoring vital signs.
Assist veterinary surgeons and nurses with procedures, including safe restraint of patients.
Maintain accurate patient records and hospital documentation.
Support hospital operations through stock management, equipment maintenance, and cleanliness.
Follow infection control and hygiene protocols to ensure a safe environment.
Participate in training programmes such as the Linnaeus PCA Training and Paragon Progress Log.
Attend team meetings and collaborate effectively with colleagues to ensure smooth hospital operations.
Essential:
Experience handling animals in a professional or veterinary environment
5 GCSEs (A–C) including English, Maths, and Science or equivalent
Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
Approachable, cheerful, and professional attitude
Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage multiple tasks
Motivation to learn and develop skills in veterinary nursing
Desirable:
Previous experience in a veterinary practice or referral hospital
Knowledge of basic animal care procedures
