Multi-Craft Technician Lead

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is looking for a Multi-Craft Technician Lead to maintain and ensure capacity of equipment assets in assigned areas of responsibility that impact optimal efficiencies at lowest reasonable cost, while developing and leading associates within the reliability group. 

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

POSITION DUTIES & TASKS:

  • Maintain manufacturing process and support equipment to highest, reasonable performance levels to include mechanical systems including, but not limited to:
  • Power transmission components - bearings, pulleys/sheaves, shafts/rollers, couplings, sprockets, chains, belts, motors, and gearbox
  • Conveyance systems – product/process related, as well as those tied to utilities such as steam, water, air, electricity, etc. which could include pumps, piping, etc.
  • Mechanical control systems - including related hydraulic & pneumatic elements
  • Maintain manufacturing process and support equipment to highest, reasonable performance levels to include electrical systems including, but not limited to: Electrical system components - MCC’s, inverters, motors, etc. Control systems - PLC’s, robotics, and other associated automation equipment
  • Execute, lead, and assist in development of proactive maintenance plans, including planned jobs on assigned equipment to include: Preventive Maintenance (PM) - inspection & measurement of equipment components for proper function, including replacement of components on pre-defined schedules and lubrication. Predictive Maintenance (PdM) – inspection and measurement of equipment performance applying Infrared Thermography, collection of oil samples for outside analysis, and basic ultrasound measurement with audible evaluation. Condition Maintenance (CM) – repair and replacement of components identified as requiring attention through PM & PdM activities or because of emergent machine issues, including influence in the development of detailed job plans
  • Mentor Multi-craft Tech levels D through B3 in development of work-related skills
  • Execute assign, and schedule work orders in support of projects and process improvement (PI) efforts identified as critical to business objective, including support for PRIDE goals
  • Order parts and coordinate vendor services for various equipment issues and PMs
  • Make sure the maintenance shops and office spaces stay clean, and that proper housekeeping is performed daily, including but not limited to removing the trash, sweeping and organizing the shop
  • Perform as relief supervisor as needed
  • Available “on call” during scheduled times if applicable; during the “on call” times, individual will be available to provide advice, assistance, and physical support if the problem requires

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or an equivalent
  • Must pass the Bennett’s Mechanical Test to be considered for an interview
  • Must complete technician level specific training and pass tests
  • 5 years of relevant experience or technical degree and previous relevant experience in a team leadership role
  • Must possess good interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills; experience with procurement and vendor relations preferred
  • Safety practices - LOTO, Confined Space, PPE, Hot Work, PIT, Fall Protection, Hoisting & Rigging
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with instructions, work orders, and service manuals.
  • Calculator and computer usage for work order documentation, parts requisitioning, etc.
  • Measurement units, techniques and application of appropriate tools including DMM’s, megger meters, tachometers, network cable testing, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics/prints and make simple sketches. Identification and proper use of tools, focused on selection of the right tool for work assignment application
  • Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Advanced understanding of e-stop systems and troubleshooting of electrical components such as, but not limited to PLC’s, AC & DC drives, relay logic, single loop controllers, pneumatics & hydraulics
  • Ability to size wire and components for specific single & 3 phase circuits
  • Selection and development of lubrication schedules, including application methods and systems
  • Power transmission system and component removal and installation techniques and procedures
  • Plumbing/piping conveyance system and component removal and installation techniques and procedures
  • Precision alignment techniques for direct coupled elements, including laser alignment
  • Basic fabrication skills including knowledge of welding and cutting techniques and tools
  • Advanced troubleshooting techniques of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Must be able to work at different heights and work from a lift truck basket or ladder as needed and maintain complete LTO certification
  • Must have experience with machine and facility power and wiring - indoor and outdoor
  • Must demonstrate advanced industrial mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Must be able to create work orders, follow up, document and close work orders in CMMS.
