MSAT Scientist III (Upstream)

Location: Vacaville, California

The role will be a recognized process expert in cell culture and primary recovery operations (Upstream USP).  Supporting multiple customer project teams to transfer manufacturing processes into the Vacaville site as well as maintaining and improving existing commercial processes. This role has the opportunity to develop extensive internal and external networks while building influence and credibility in the industry. In addition, the role will act as a coach/mentor to more junior team members and cross functionally as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).​

Compensation for this role will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and relevant knowledge.

What you will do:

  • Provide technical oversite of commercial manufacturing upstream processes to ensure scheduled batches are delivered on-time in full.

  • Manages technical risks during process changes, including raw material changes, ensuring timely communication of critical process info across functions.

  • Analyzes complex data to improve process understanding, and completes quality tasks (e.g. deviations, CAPAs).

  • Monitoring manufacturing systems to meet ensure Continuous Process Verification (CPV) requirements for commercial processes are met.

  • Partners with SMEs to grow process knowledge and mentor junior staff on technical problem-solving, drives process improvements in GMP operations.

  • Plans and conducts lab experiments for process optimization, troubleshooting, and evaluation of new processes.

  • Anticipates and resolves technical challenges; communicates across teams, prevents deviations, and evaluates new technologies for innovation and efficiency.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or relevant field.

  • Strong analytical skills to identify issues, assess data, and propose solutions.

  • Effective communication and collaboration with customers and teams.

  • Skilled in task planning, time management, and handling multiple priorities.

  • Ability to evaluate data and drive process improvements.

  • Adaptable to fast-paced environments, shifting workloads, and timelines.
