The role of the MRO Team Lead position will form part of a Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) organisation within BDUK, working as part of a team in support of our key programmes. The role provides Accountability and Management of the Maintenance activity, by having control, oversight and supervision of multidiscipline teams of maintenance control staff, to carry out the planning, day to day oversight and control of the direction of maintenance delivery.
The role requires an individual with good technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to distribute and sequence technical work requirements to their team, controlling demanding workloads, whilst delivering to a high standard, and maintaining schedule. The candidate must be capable of understanding and interpreting technical documents, drawings and associated publications. They must possess a working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MAA Regulatory Publication (MRP) Part 145, aviation Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety Management System (SMS) and the application of these requirements within their area of responsibility, accountability and authority (RAA).
MRO Team Lead
The competencies of an MRO Team Lead will include:
Highly experienced in scheduled maintenance, repair and modification of aircraft/component and suitably trained/authorised on the aircraft type or component type being worked.
Hold 2nd or 2nd & 3rd Signature authorisation on the aircraft type being worked on, dependent on business or platform requirements.
The ability to provide leadership oversight and apply both their technical knowledge and human factors (HF) knowledge, with regard to the running and control of their team/s, against industry and organisational requirements.
An excellent communicator, with a demonstrable ability to communicate the organisational, management and technical work requirements to their team/s, to ensure it is understood, in order that key business targets are met.
Capable of working and communicating within management levels, cross functional areas and the customer effectively.
Demonstrable and proven working knowledge of MAA Regulatory Articles (RA), MAA Regulatory Publication (MRP) Part 145, BDUK MRP 145 MOE, aviation Quality Assurance (QA) and Safety Management System (SMS) processes, and the application of these requirements within their area of accountability, responsibility and authority.
Capable of providing leadership to their team/s, in order to maintain a scheduled plan, the sequencing and control of demanding workloads, for on time completion, to budget and to the required standard.
Capable of understanding and interpreting Technical Documents, Technical Drawings and/or associated Authorised Technical Publications (ATP’s), to provide guidance to their team/s if necessary.
Act as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for their current Type authority in which they work within.
Demonstrable and proven leadership, capable of adopting appropriate leadership skills/ styles for effective management of their team/s

The responsibilities of an MRO Team Lead will include:
MRO Team Lead will be assigned a Bay/s, Aircraft, workshop, area, etc within the operational environment which will be denoted as their area of responsibility.
For ensuring their team/s understand the requirements, with regard to work undertaken/completed, having been carried out in accordance with the relevant planned work instruction, Engineering instruction or ATP.
To ensure sufficient resource is available to meet schedule milestones and on time completion of work, within their area, with due consideration to Human Factors (HF).
To ensure their team/s have the tooling and equipment available to meet the planned schedule, to ensure work flow productivity is maintained with due consideration to HF, and to maintain acceptable work standards.
For completing all work load to budget and ensuring that emerging work is correctly captured as Over and Above (O&A) as required.
Certification and completion of work package Work orders (MoD F700, GOLDesp MRO)
For 3rd Signature Co-ordination of maintenance Packages (WOs) when required, and suitably authorised.
Capture, Creation and engineering of MWOs for emergent work on Maintenance utilising GOLDesp/MRO.
Manage their teams through active participation in performance management, Role modelling, coaching/mentoring, objective setting and team personal development plans.
To participate in Continual Improvement (CI) workshops as a Subject Matter expert (SME), when required, to identify and work with the relevant function to remove inefficiencies causing bottle necks or blockers, in order to maintain the planned schedule, escalating any such situations that are beyond their control to the Delivery Manager/s
In conjunction with the MRO Maintenance Controller and the Operations Support Specialist, manage the integration of emerging work within the scheduled work load, within their area.
For timely escalation of emerging risks or issues impacting schedule and/or productivity to the MRO Maintenance Controller, for resolution.
To ensure their Supervisor/s and team/s work within the limitations of their authorisations and to all necessary BDUK Pols/Pro’s/ Practices.
For adopting a collaborative approach to their work and ensuring a collaborative approach is adopted by all staff within their team.
To ensure the ongoing wellbeing of the team/s within their area.
Responsible for ensuring the availability of all tools, GSE, material and components – escalating shortfalls as required.
Maintain hangar husbandry, bay layout design and actively participate in 6S/FOD prevention and control.
Ensuring they and their team/s adhere to national and local Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and in accordance with company policy to ensure their own and the team’s safety
Ensuring that the standard of all associated paperwork or electronic documentation for work
completed by their team/s has been completed to the required standard, within the
aircraft/component work pack, MoD F700 series, GOLDesp or GOLDesp MRO as applicable. This is to be completed in a timely manner and no later than the end of each shift.
Ensuring that shortfalls of resource are highlighted to the Delivery Manager/s, without delay, with due consideration to HF implications.
Ensuring training gaps within their team/s are identified and skill levels maintained, in order to ensure the capability of their team/s.
To action and allocate effectively all work scheduled for a particular shift as detailed by the production plan and the MRO Maintenance Controller – preventing conflict of work streams and maintaining the flow of work.
For ensuring Supervisor/s and team/s accurately charge to the correct charge lines.
Effective management of their own and their team/s overtime.
For ensuring their teams effectiveness and productivity levels are maintained by ensuring a highly motivated empowered team.
Ensuring compliance with the BDUK MRP 145 Maintenance Organisation Exposition.
Qualifications/Experience Required:
A good communicator, with a demonstrable ability to communicate technical work requirements.
Capable and experienced in sequencing and controlling demanding workloads, on time, to budget and to the required standard
Capable of understanding and interpreting Technical Information (TI).
Able to demonstrate understanding/knowledge of leadership skills/ styles and the ability to apply them in an effective manner.
Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline.
Experience of maintaining UK military helicopters (ideally the UK Apache AH Mk1 or AH-64E).
Experience of leading a team within an aviation maintenance environment.
Experience of electronic maintenance recording systems (ideally GOLDesp and/or GOLD MRO).
Experience of UK MOD Form 700 (F700) paperwork.
