The Integration Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the successful onboarding, stability, and governance of Markel Personal Lines API integrations. This position serves as the primary point of coordination between external integration partners and internal business, technology, product, and underwriting teams. The role is designed to strengthen partner relationships, improve integration quality, ensure audit readiness, assist in error handling, and support scalable growth with Markel’s APIs and digital strategies.Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary representative for all external API partner engagements, including onboarding and ongoing integration maintenance.
Lead and facilitate partner meetings by preparing agendas, gathering questions from external partners, and coordinating responses with internal business and technology teams.
Own integration documentation by capturing issues, maintaining current records, and ensuring documentation accuracy and completeness.
Review and validate external API communications to ensure consistent, clear, and professional messaging aligned with business standards and partner expectations.
Assist in API error handling, working closely with the technology team to quickly resolve errors, communicating updates effectively with partners, and keep line of sight on IT tickets.
Coordinate and manage integration testing activities, including business validation, and sign-off for API launches.
Partner with the underwriting and audit team to support audits and ensure integration controls and documentation meet compliance requirements.
Oversee developer portal setup, demonstrations, and ongoing maintenance to support partner enablement and usability. Ensure the developer portal is current and updated.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelors degree required
1 - 5 experience preferred
API experience, including partner integrations, testing coordination, relationship management, and partner support.
Insurance industry background, with demonstrated familiarity in insurance systems, workflows, and data/API integrations.
Proven experience supporting insurance-related integrations, such as carriers, vendors, or third-party platforms.
Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with external partners and internal stakeholders.
Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical topics into clear, business-focused messaging.
Demonstrated ability to work across multiple business units, including technology, audit, product, underwriting, and operations teams.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, meeting leadership, documentation accuracy, and follow-through.
Occasional travel required
