Motorsports XiL Development Engineer

Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three (3) times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The Development Engineer in the Motorsports XiL Engineering team will design, develop, and maintain tools for X-in-the-Loop (XiL) systems, with a strong focus on motorsports applications. This role requires expertise in integrating hardware and new technologies into simulation loops, working independently, and collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to deliver high-performance solutions for motorsports simulation and vehicle dynamics.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain tools for XiL systems (Driver-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop).

  • Integrate new hardware and emerging technologies into XiL environments to improve simulation fidelity.

  • Collaborate across disciplines including vehicle dynamics, controls, electronics, software, and simulation.

  • Work independently to scope, plan, and execute development tasks aligned with project goals.

  • Support testing, validation, and deployment of XiL systems in motorsports contexts.

  • Document processes, tools, and integration methods for reproducibility and knowledge transfer.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • 5 or more years of post-graduate industry experience

  • 3-5 years of experience developing tools for XiL systems (Driver-in-the-Loop, Hardware-in-the-Loop, Software-in-the-Loop).

  • Strong understanding of hardware integration (sensors, actuators, control units) into simulation loops.

  • Experience with real-time simulation platforms.

  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages commonly used in simulation and tool development (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C#).

  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and deliver results under tight timelines.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

  • Proven experience in motorsports or high-performance automotive engineering environments.

  • Experience with driver behavior modeling and integration into vehicle dynamics simulations.

  • Familiarity with motorsports-specific systems (telemetry, race car electronics, simulation rigs).

  • Knowledge of haptics and/or advanced feedback systems in XiL environments.
