Job Summary: About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Child and Youth Services Flight at Vandenberg AFB Youth Center. Moderately to heavy physical effort is required in occasionally lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and in pushing heavy furniture, loading carts, etc. Frequently lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds.

Major Duties:

  • Operates a variety of motor vehicles (approximate weight up to 10,0000 pounds) including 15 passenger vans and up to 44 passenger busses for the purpose of transporting adults and children to a variety location both on and off base. Also operates cargo vans, sedans and trucks. Performs daily operating maintenance on all vehicles such as checking fluid levels, air pressure, cleaning vehicles, and other minor repairs. Maintaining vehicle paperwork. Responsible for pickup and delivery of supplies and equipment. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from tracks, dollies, etc, moves heavy boxes, cartons, or luggage by hand, hand truck, or dolly; opens crates and boxes using crowbars and cuts bands using shears; stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Responsible for grounds maintenance to include playgrounds, sports fields, gardens and yards. Polices surrounding outdoor areas picking up trash, pulling weeds and landscaping. Runs hand lawnmowers or (domestic type) powered lawnmowers, when this does not require heavy physical effort (for example, on steep grades); clears small trees and bushes, using handsaw, hatchet or clipper. Rakes leave or use a gas-powered leaf blower to clear poured in place surfacing (around play equipment) and sidewalks of sand and debris. Takes clippings/debris to approved disposal sites. Cleans offices, storerooms, corridors, stairways and other areas. Sweeps, dry mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors. Dusts, waxes and polishes furniture. Empties wastebaskets. Polishes door knobs and other metal fixtures. Washes windows and blinds. Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly and sanitary conditions. Cleans mirrors, sinks and water fountains. Replaces toilet tissue, hand soap and towels. Moves and arranges furniture as directed. Notes condition of facilities and reports to supervisor items needing repaired. Act as a liaison between program and Civil Engineering to ensure work orders are placed and followed through until completion.Performs other related duties as required. Must be able to exert light physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
