The primary purpose of this position is to operate a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 33,000 pounds. Operates Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including 10K AT forklifts and 25K/Next Generation Service Loader (NGSL) 60K (Tunner)Loaders.
Major Duties:
Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of operating a variety of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of over32,000 pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers, or heavy load in-line trucks. 2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo and knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and forklift operation. 3. Knowledge of operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel-powered forklifts typically capable of lifting less than 10,000 pounds as high as 168 inches. 4. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read installation maps to determine the shortest and safest route, and meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules, while operating motor vehicles; and to judge aisles, doorways, loads and load balance, and operate controls to maneuver forklift trucks. 5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance. 6. Knowledge of the full range of passenger processing for both incoming and outgoing passengers and knowledge of travel regulations, instructions, and other guidance regarding passenger travel. Skill in communicating orally to individuals and groups, and ability to work with others in a customer service environment. Physical Demands: The work requires above average physical ability, long periods of standing, walking, stretching, and lifting of heavy baggage. Work Environment: The work is performed in an air terminal with moderate risks that require special safety precautions. Heavybaggage, moving machinery, and conveyor belts all produce above average risks. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
