The primary purpose of this position is to operate one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds. Drives over public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo. Also operates forklifts to facilitate cargo loading.

Major Duties:

• - Drives tractor trailers and/or other vehicles typically having a GVW of more than 32,000 pounds. Operates vehicles to transport supplies, materials, equipment, and/or tools. - Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lift trucks to facilitate loading and unloading duties. Maybe required to transport bulky and unwieldy items. - Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles,and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. - Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. - Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe andclean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is to ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of over 32,000pounds such as truck tractors with semi or full trailers, heavy load in-line trucks, or interstate motor coaches. 2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. 3. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and fork liftoperation. 4. Knowledge of operating one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered fork lifts. 5. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route, and meet pickup anddelivery deadlines and schedules. 6. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle, forklift, and power take-off unit operation and preventive maintenance. Physical Effort- Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Working Conditions- Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent), and areexposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, andbroken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highwayspeeds over complicated road and interchange systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
