Tessera is seeking a dedicated and skilled Motor Vehicle Mechanic I to join our team at Fort Barfoot, Virginia. We value professionals who bring craftsmanship, reliability, and pride in their work. Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, overhauls, and repairs on automotive equipment to ensure reliability and safety.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, determine necessary repairs, and replace or rebuild components such as engines, transmissions, carburetors, fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
- Operate and maintain tools, hoists, gauges, cutting torches, grinding wheels, and other specialized equipment safely and effectively.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals to guide repair and maintenance work.
- Accurately document repairs, inspections, and parts usage; ensure compliance with SOPs, Quality Assurance Programs, and applicable Federal, State, and Site regulations.
- Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to all Safety, Fire, and Security standards.
- Provide excellent customer service with professionalism, teamwork, and a positive attitude; collaborate with management, inspectors, and other trades to support cross‑functional maintenance tasks.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in Small Engine or Automotive Maintenance required.
- Diesel, Hydro, and Hydraulics experience preferred.
- Prior shop experience preferred. Certified Small Engine or Automotive Techs Preferred.
- Must provide general mechanic toolbox.
- Must be able to look up information on a computer as it relates to parts and workflow systems.
- ATV/UTV repair knowledge/experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in automotive parts management is preferred.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to prioritize tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be proficient in computer programs including MS Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System preferred.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with managers, co-workers, customers, and vendors.
Physical Requirements:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
- Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
- Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
Requirements:
- Must be able to pass Medium Risk Public Trust background investigation prior to start.
- Valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
- Must be able to provide a general mechanic’s toolbox.
