The Mortgage Insurance Specialist is a key contributor to the Mortgage Insurance team, responsible for managing daily private mortgage insurance (PMI) operations with accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. This role ensures PMI records are properly established, maintained, billed, cancelled, and terminated in accordance with investor guidelines, the Homeowners Protection Act (HPA), and company policies.
The Mortgage Insurance Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining data integrity, reconciling discrepancies, supporting portfolio growth, and ensuring audit readiness in a fast‑paced mortgage servicing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up and maintain private mortgage insurance (PMI) records on newly boarded and existing mortgage loans in accordance with investor guidelines.
• Monitor PMI coverage requirements based on loan‑to‑value (LTV) ratios, payment history, and applicable investor rules.
• Ensure accurate PMI premium billing, payments, and reconciliations.
• Investigate and resolve PMI billing discrepancies using analytical and logical review of loan data.
• Process PMI cancellations and terminations in compliance with the Homeowners Protection Act (HPA), investor guidelines, and insurer requirements.
• Calculate and validate LTV ratios using original, current, and appraised property values.
• Review and quality‑check loan transfers and modifications that include PMI.
• Identify missing, inaccurate, or incomplete PMI data, including missing termination dates, and take corrective action.
• Reconcile discrepancies related to PMI during portfolio growth and bulk loan boarding activity.
• Support internal and external audits by ensuring PMI data accuracy and documentation readiness.
• Maintain strong working knowledge of PMI regulations, investor requirements, and servicing best practices.
• Complete all required training courses within designated timelines.
• This position may require on‑site or hybrid work based on business needs.
Qualifications:
• Strong working knowledge of private mortgage insurance (PMI) requirements and processes.
• Experience interpreting and applying investor guidelines and Homeowners Protection Act (HPA) regulations.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including lookup formulas (e.g., VLOOKUP or equivalent).
• Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy.
• Proven ability to manage a task‑heavy workload in a high‑volume environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and reconciliation skills.
• Ability to work independently as a self‑starter while collaborating effectively with team members.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with mortgage servicing systems and PMI processing preferred.
