About the Role
SPF Private Clients (part of Howden) is seeking a Mortgage Adviser to provide regulated mortgage advice to new and existing clients. The role involves delivering accurate, compliant recommendations, supporting clients throughout the advisory process, and promoting SPF Private Clients as a leading provider of mortgage solutions.
This position requires adherence to FCA rules, including the Consumer Duty, to ensure fair treatment and good outcomes for all customers.
Key Responsibilities
Client Advice & Service:
Provide clear and professional mortgage advice to prospective and existing clients.
Gather and assess all relevant client information to conduct a full needs analysis.
Prepare and deliver suitable recommendations and reports in line with company standards.
Maintain consistent adherence to FCA requirements and internal compliance policies.
Ensure all client interactions are logged accurately and promptly.
Business Development:
Work with your Supervisor to agree on a business development plan aligned with company targets.
Develop and maintain relationships with clients, introducers, and relevant stakeholders.
Review client circumstances regularly to identify appropriate advice opportunities.
Represent SPF Private Clients professionally across all interactions.
Compliance & Record Keeping:
Follow company procedures when submitting business and managing client files.
Ensure all administrative duties meet required record‑keeping and file‑quality standards.
Complete any remedial actions within set timescales.
Use internal systems correctly, ensuring data accuracy at all times.
Demonstrate ongoing competence through assessments or monitoring as required.
Training & Development:
Obtain and maintain the qualifications necessary to act as a Registered Mortgage Adviser.
Complete continuing professional development (CPD) in line with company policy.
Participate in company training programmes and address any development needs identified with your Supervisor.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry practices.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Knowledge of relevant FCA sourcebooks, including:
- Principles for Business (PRIN)
- Code of Conduct (COCON)
- Fit and Proper test for Employees and Senior Personal (FIT)
- Training and Competence (TC)
- General Provisions (GEN)
- Dispute Resolution: Complaints (DISP)
- Business Standards (MCOBS
Awareness of financial crime and anti‑money laundering requirements, including SYSC, JMLSG guidance, and the Bribery Act.
Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively in a range of client situations.
Ability to assess information, apply regulatory standards, and work within structured processes.
