Position Summary:

Monitor Tech, Cardiac Monitor Tech, Telemetry Tech will perform a variety of support staff functions related to the care of patients and documenting services provided. Obtain necessary information, prepare relevant documents, record information in patient records and support other health care providers in the delivery of services to patients. Observe telemetry monitors and report dysrhythmias to the RN. Document strips of any importance and one strip per shift for each patient.

What a Monitor Tech, Cardiac Monitor Tech, Telemetry Tech will need:

  • High school graduation required. Basic EKG class and monitor orientation required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations to complete necessary patient record documentation. Ability to collect and organize data into user-friendly formats.
  • Current BCLS Certificate.
  • Ability to monitor quality indications as outlined.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing to meet position responsibilities. Ability to apply continuous improvement methods in the delivery of patient services.
  • Articulates and demonstrates commitment to the philosophy, values, mission and vision of MH.

What a Monitor Tech, Cardiac Monitor Tech, Telemetry Tech will do:

  • Records telemetry strip with PRI, QRS, HR, telemetry strip number, date, time and interpretation of rhythm. Reports any abnormalities to appropriate personnel (RN, LPN and Case Managers).
  • Responds to all monitor alarms in a timely manner.
  • Maintains unit supplies daily: Batteries for telemetry, electrodes, wires. Collaborates with HUC to order adequate supplies. Checks function of defibrillators weekly and crash carts daily and records on log. Maintains monitoring area to keep neat and clean. Maintains assigned portion of equipment log.
  • Maintains telemetry monitoring: admitting patient to arrhythmia monitoring, changing batteries and electrodes, removing for tests and reattaching patients as necessary, reviewing alarm trends at end of shift, reporting rhythms to next shift, communicating malfunction to Bio-Med/Engineering first and to unit manager second.
