Northrop Grumman Mission System’s Engineering and Sciences (E&S) Baltimore and Partnered Sites (BaPs) Division is seeking a Modeling Simulation & Analysis – Systems Engineering Section Lead to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be in Baltimore, MD, and is a full time on site role.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Lead a Modeling Simulation & Analysis Section (typically 70-80 engineers) within the Foundational Systems Engineering organization and report directly to the Foundational Systems Engineering Director. The position is responsible for ensuring the systems engineering department and related disciplines have MS&A developers and analysts have the expertise, and tools necessary to support successful capture and execution of the BaPs division programs.
As a Section Lead, you will set clear operating objectives and provide leadership and mentorship to front-line managers, aligning their efforts with engineering goals, corporate policies, and strategic objectives. You will also oversee and support programs within the business unit portfolio, ensuring they have the right people, training, and processes in place to achieve successful outcomes.
Building on the leadership duties outlined above, Section Leads will also spearhead risk identification and mitigation planning, safeguarding project performance, schedule fidelity, and technical excellence. They will proactively resolve technical or operational challenges as they arise, ensuring uninterrupted progress. In this role, the incumbent will partner with engineers and program staff to recruit, develop, and retain top talent, fostering a pipeline of skilled professionals. Frequent collaboration with peer managers, program leaders, and senior business unit executives will further strengthen the overall health and performance of the organization’s program portfolio.
Support and lead engineering organization efforts aimed towards skill and career development, continuous improvement, and growth.
Provide Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) leadership and perform/support risk development and management.
Provide Control/Cost Account Management (CAM) support leveraging Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and agile project execution methodologies.
Support writing technical specifications, Statements of Work (SOWs), design reviews (e.g. SRR, SDR, PDR, CDR, TRR TIMs, etc.) and capture/proposal activities.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external customers, homerooms and sectors.
Ensure training to staff on Engineering Tools required to support their programs.
Maintain and ensure application of design processes and guidelines used by the department.
Collaborate with peer managers to ensure consistency across multiple work groups.
Develop proposal inputs and review proposal content for both internal and external customers.
Lead or support department initiatives, technology roadmap creation, cross-campus/sector involvement, and IRAD project leadership.
Guide MS&A activities of advanced systems using established defense industry practices.
Perform verification and validation of simulation performance against test data, and formally verifying that models and simulations meet requirements.
Employ large scale data analytics, leverage probability and statistics, including the application of design of experiment techniques, for the evaluation of system and mission performance.
Integrate operational firmware and software in simulations at the mission level.
This position is contingent on the successful transfer of an active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain Special Program Access.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years of experience, a master’s degree with 6 years of experience, or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields.
U.S Citizenship is required.
A current/active DoD Secret Clearance.
Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
Experience in modeling, simulation, and analysis and formal verification, validation, and accreditation activities with the Department of Defense
Experience leading diverse teams and attracting, recruiting, and developing top talent.
High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and sustainment.
Working knowledge of object-oriented programming principles and practices, simulation software design patterns, object-oriented languages including C/C++ and Python.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields.
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher.
Simulation/Software design and development experience.
Proficient in Agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence), with the ability to rapidly assess projects and provide technical guidance across disciplines.
Broad technical background in electrical, mechanical, or environmental systems, coupled with a history of mentoring and developing engineers in multidisciplinary environments.
