The Opportunity:
CACI is currently looking for a Model Based Systems Engineer Intern to join our team supporting Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport for the Department of Defense. Join our passionate team of industry-leading individuals on a program that leverages the best practices in Systems Engineering and Rapid Prototyping to integrate and deliver state of the art capability in support of our nation’s warfighters.
As a member of the CACI Team, you will support the men and women charged with safeguarding the American people and enhancing the Nation’s safety, security, and prosperity. Our warfighters are on the front lines, every day, protecting our national security from the increasingly sophisticated and complex threats of our adversaries. CACI programs thrive in a culture of innovation and are constantly seeking individuals who can bring creative ideas to solve complex problems, both technical and procedural at the team and portfolio levels. The ability to be adaptable and to work constructively with a technically diverse and geographically separated team is crucial.
This position will be 100% onsite at our Crane, IN location.
Responsibilities:
· Support design, development, and sustainment efforts for a wide variety of programs using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles — including platform integration of innovative technologies, digital system modeling, and architecture definition.
· Develop, maintain, and refine system models using tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw, Rhapsody, or similar SysML-based environments to define system architectures, interfaces, and behaviors.
· Interface directly with Program Managers, Project Managers, and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to support the development, analysis, verification, and validation of complex systems throughout the lifecycle.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that system requirements are clearly defined, traceable, and validated through model-based approaches.
· Support integration of MBSE methods into existing engineering processes, including linking system models to simulation, analysis, and test artifacts.
· Participate in system-level trade studies, design reviews, and digital thread initiatives to improve efficiency, consistency, and traceability across engineering domains.
· Generate and maintain system documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and technical reports derived from system models.
· Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance MBSE practices, tool usage, and model fidelity.
· Support troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts related to model integration, system behavior, and design consistency.
Qualifications:
Required:
· U.S. Citizenship is required with eligibility to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
· Currently enrolled in or pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.
· Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA in major coursework (exceptions may be considered based on skills and demonstrated passion for systems engineering).
· Familiarity or coursework in Model-Based Systems Engineering, SysML, or digital engineering concepts preferred.
· Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
· Basic understanding of systems lifecycle concepts, requirements engineering, and verification/validation methods.
Desired:
· Active DoD Secret clearance or higher.
· Hands-on experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and environments such as Cameo/MagicDraw, IBM Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect.
· Understanding of SysML, UML, or digital thread integration concepts.
· Demonstrated technical documentation, planning, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
· Familiarity with system requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jama, or Polarion).
· Experience applying rapid prototyping, model validation, or reverse engineering techniques to support early design and development efforts.
· Exposure to simulation, analysis, or model integration across engineering domains (mechanical, electrical, software).
· Prior internship or co-op experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or a related technical field.
