Job Description:

Major Job Functions:

Customer Relations — 30%

  • Partner with site operational, mine planning, and maintenance teams to support smooth adoption and effective use of CAT technologies.

  • Provide ongoing guidance to help customers maximize value from advanced technology solutions.

  • Collaborate with customers during updates, upgrades, and optimization initiatives.

Technical Support — 30%

  • Optimize CAT technologies at mining sites through direct technical engagement.

  • Perform system administration for Fleet, Terrain, Site Awareness, and DSS technologies.

  • Support calibration, commissioning, and integration of new/existing equipment.

  • Manage onboard and system configurations to ensure reliable operations.

Troubleshooting — 20%

  • Diagnose and resolve software, configuration, hardware, and networking issues

  • Conduct root cause analysis and support maintenance teams in corrective actions.

  • Identify system failures, serviceability issues, and product performance gaps.

Training / Mentoring — 10%

  • Deliver technical documentation and mentoring to customer and Finning site teams.

  • Provide mentorship and cross-functional knowledge sharing to build technical capability.

Reporting / Data Analysis — 10%

  • Query system databases to generate operational insights.

  • Produce/maintain detailed reports on system performance, utilization, and failure trends.

  • Recommend process improvements based on data-driven analysis and documentation review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Technical Support, Continuous Improvement, and Optimization: Work closely with customers and internal technical teams to optimize CAT technologies at mining sites. Provide expert guidance to ensure customers maximize the value of advanced technologies.

  • Software Updates and Hardware Upgrades: Assist in implementing software updates and hardware upgrades at customer operations, ensuring systems remain current and reliable.

  • Calibration and Commissioning: Support calibration and commissioning of new and existing equipment for optimal performance.

  • Advanced Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network components. Collaborate with and assist maintenance technicians in identifying problems, applying root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime and reduce costs.

  • Fleet Management System Administration: Manage configuration, integration, and optimization of Fleet, Terrain, Site Awareness, and DSS systems. Ensure seamless interoperability with mine planning and operational workflows.

  • Database Familiarity and Reporting: Maintain and query system databases to extract operational insights. Develop and deliver detailed reports on system performance, equipment utilization, and failure trends for stakeholders.

  • Documentation and Process Improvement: Create and review technical documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides. Recommend process improvements based on data-driven insights.

  • Collaboration with Customer Teams: Partner with operational, mine planning, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth technology adoption and usage.

  • Failure Trend Analysis: Investigate product failure trends, analyze serviceability issues, and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.

  • Mentoring and Training: Deliver technical training and cross-functional knowledge sharing to enhance team capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Minimum 3+ years in a technical support or operations role with strong troubleshooting skills. Experience with mining technology systems preferred.

  • Education: Post-secondary education in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

  • Fleet Management Systems: Hands-on experience with major fleet management platforms (e.g., CAT MineStar, Wenco, Modular) including configuration, monitoring, and optimization.

  • Database Knowledge: Proficiency in SQL or similar database tools for querying, reporting, and data analysis.

  • Reporting Skills: Ability to create detailed operational and performance reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel.

Additional Skills

  • Networking and GPS/GNSS Systems: Familiarity with networking protocols and positioning systems.

  • Field Experience: At least 2 years of field-based technical support or commissioning experience.

  • Mining and Construction Background: Prior exposure to mining operations or heavy civil construction is an asset.

  • Analytical Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable insights.
