Company:
Millennium Space SystemsMillennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), is a fast, agile small satellite company focused on national security space. Our missions have direct impact to global security, like missile warning and Earth observation.
Our team is curious, bold and innovative. We take risks, innovate and explore new techniques and technologies. We influence change because we challenge the status quo. And when we watch our satellites launch, we know each one of us made it happen.
Mission Assurance is where technical truth meets mission success. Our team dives into the hardest problems, exposes hidden risk, and drives programs across the finish line with rigor and speed. We challenge assumptions, demand clarity, and raise the bar on engineering execution across the company.
As an intern with the Mission Assurance team at Millennium Space Systems, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers on real spacecraft challenges. You’ll help evaluate technical decisions, support risk reduction efforts, contribute to root cause investigations, and build confidence in the satellites we deliver. This internship is structured to flex across priority areas based on applicant strengths; selected interns will be placed into one of several focus tracks with the opportunity to collaborate across functions supporting mission success and contractual execution. You can expect meaningful responsibility, strong mentorship, and rapid development. This role will develop your systems thinking, technical judgment, and communication skills while contributing directly to the success of full-cycle flight programs.
Over the course of our 10-12 week internship experience you will have the opportunity to:
Review engineering designs, manufacturing and test documentation, and internal processes in support of finding root causes and corrective actions for issues.
Support risk evaluation and mitigation plans for assuring mission success.
Investigate technical problems and challenges to evaluate and recommend solutions.
Harness existing tools or create new tools to solve technical problems via analysis, design, or simulation techniques that can be corroborated with testing.
Design and perform tests and experiments investigating risks and failures in operational and developmental satellite programs.
Intern projects will be tailored to company needs and student skillsets closer to the start date. Typical projects include:
o Risk Management – Support program and enterprise-level technical risk evaluation and mitigation planning to ensure mission success. Contribute to improvements in risk tracking tools and reporting methods.
o Parts, Materials, and Process (PMP) – Support in evaluating and selecting materials to satisfy design requirements for a variety of materials including polymers, adhesives, thermal interface materials, composites, metallics and materials pertaining to electronic assemblies. Support materials engineering assessments and impact analyses for flight and non-flight hardware
o Products – Support product-level process improvement initiatives to accelerate delivery and reduce defects. Help streamline cross-functional touchpoints impacting product flow.
o Operations Assurance – Advance corporate-level operations assurance vision and improve alignment with execution milestones. Assist in defining and documenting operations best practices.
