Job Summary: THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MILITARY FUNERAL HONOR PROGRAM COORDINATOR-TITLE 32, Position Description Number PDD2023000 and is part of the KY J1, National Guard. *NOTE: Current on-board applicants (AREA 1B, Title 32 employees within the J1 only) will retain current tenure and be temporarily promoted or reassigned, all others will be hired with indefinite tenure.*

Major Duties:

  • As a MILITARY FUNERAL HONOR PROGRAM COORDINATOR-TITLE 32, GS-0301-9, you will perform program development and the coordination of functions for the Military Funeral Honors Program. Develop, implement, interpret, and publish SOPs, policies, operating regulations, and procedures. Plan, develop, schedule, and make recommendations for changes to MFHP. Responsible for creating a cooperative network of agencies, organizations, and individuals to improve the program. Develop, manage, and coordinate MFHP training for the state. Recruit, organize, and train National Guardsmen to render Military Funeral Honors in a professional and dignified manner. Serve as the primary point of contact, coordinator, and advisor for questions regarding Military Funeral Honors and/or Casualty Assistance. Receive request for Honor Guard support, verify eligibility, and assign Funeral Honors Staff to perform the ceremony. Provide advisory services to family members of deceased military members and serve as a liaison between the family, funeral directors, veterans services organizations, Veterans Affairs offices, National Guard Bureau (NGB), Regional CAC, and other military services. Provide briefings on the capabilities of the program, eligibility requirements, and procedures to receive Honors. Responsible for consolidation of Military Funeral Honor's expense information used to make estimates for the program's annual operating budget. Serve as the program manager for travel orders and payment of travel claims. May direct the daily activities of a small staff assigned to assist in carrying out the operations of the state program. Plan work to be accomplished by the team and establish priorities. Serve as representative at conferences and meetings for Military Funeral Honors Programs. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: Experience which provided a general knowledge of principles of military regulations, policies, and directives relating to Military Funeral Honors and Military Drill and Ceremony. Experience using computer and automation systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 24 months experience with administrative duties such as compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc. Experience that provides working knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures for Military Funeral Honors and/or Casualty Assistance. Experience that provides the ability to conduct briefings and trainings relevant to the Military Funeral Honors Program. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Resume must have complete dates, work schedule, and/or hours worked per week for both civilian and military employment.
