The primary role of the Microbiology Lab Supervisor leads the microbiology R&D laboratory team and oversees all microbiological testing. This role ensures compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP’s), supports laboratory upkeep and maintenance, and supports projects for TS&D, R&D, and other functions as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operations of the microbiology lab, including scheduling, training, and performance management of staff.

  • Perform environmental monitoring, sterility testing, bioburden testing, microbial identification, and other projects as needed.

  • Responsible for the design and implementation of development plans to achieve defined milestones and deliver results.

  • Provides technical leadership in scientific area of expertise and leading professionals and technicians to accelerate testing programs.

  • Optimizes development workflows to deliver reproducible results and robust conclusions.

  • Mentors research associates to assist with efforts in testing.

  • Maintains and develops expertise in various laboratory testing methods and techniques, including regular development of novel methods for diverse application areas.

  • Maintain and improve laboratory procedures, SOPs, and quality systems.

  • Writes and reviews reports to ensure they are based on good science and able to make quality presentation to internal parties.

  • As a project lead, works with interdisciplinary teams to advance technologies into commercialization phase.

  • Works with external and internal R&D functions to assist with achieving project goals, as required.

  • All activities according to strict safety procedures and guidelines, providing and adhering to SOPs.

  • Anticipates, evaluates and implements trends and innovations in the area of expertise by collaboration with external partners, following scientific literature.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Travel of approximately 0–5%, or as needed to conferences, training sessions, or with external R&D partners.

Requirements

  • Skilled in microbiological techniques for bacteria and yeast

  • Entrepreneurial, ethical, and detail oriented

  • Excellent time management skills, effective with multitasking, capable of prioritization, and adept ability to improvise work plans while maintaining efficiency
