Job Summary :

The responsibility of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist is to serve patients, physicians, and associates through accurate, timely, and courteous completion of laboratory tests and communicate test results to ordering practitioners, in a professional and competent manner. Uses sound judgement to perform routine and complex laboratory functions on body fluids requiring adherence to technical procedures. Adheres to all CLIA regulations, with increased focus on Quality control, instrument maintenance, and excellent laboratory techniques.

Essential responsibilities


• Complies with all regulatory requirements, CAP, CLIA, and OSHA regulations.
• Performs routine and complex laboratory tasks in assigned departments to provide accurate and timely results.
• Performs and Evaluates quality control to meet acceptable standards for accurate patient results
• Performs, troubleshoots, and evaluates instrument maintenance to meet acceptable standards to support accurate patient results.
• Evaluating test results to identify potential errors
• Contributes to a positive work environment by functioning as a team member.
• Organizes, plans, and performs multiple tasks to accomplish department objectives.
• Provides internal and external customer assistance with a positive, service-oriented attitude, including proper phone etiquette.
• Computer skills to utilize email, spreadsheets and patient records management software
• Understanding of the laws and regulations related to infection control, safety, data security and patient privacy
• Shares with management the needs for the department including supplies and other issues that arise.
• Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
• Cooperates in the completion of additional duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; preferred Major: Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS)
    Alternate Majors: Degrees in Biology, Chemistry, or Microbiology are also acceptable. (typically complete a one-year post-baccalaureate clinical program to qualify for certification)

Experience:

  • One year of post training laboratory work is preferred but not required.
  • Degrees in Biology, Chemistry, or Microbiology typically complete a one-year post-baccalaureate clinical program to qualify for certification

Licenses or Certifications:

  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Certification; required
