Reporting to the General Mill Manager, the Manager, Safety & Health provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to the mill leadership team to advance our mission of being the safest company in the forest products industry. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving comprehensive safety and health strategies that drive a culture of zero incidents and operational excellence. 

The successful candidate will possess deep knowledge of OSHA regulations and demonstrated experience with safety management systems such as VPP, OHSAS 18001 (or ISO 45001), and related frameworks. This leader will also bring practical expertise in values-based and behavior-based safety programs, industrial hygiene principles, Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management Plans (RMP), NFPA standards, and workers’ compensation management. 

This position requires a proactive, visible leader who can influence at all levels of the organization, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a culture where safety is a core value.

How you’ll shape the future of the Health and Safety Department:

  • Plan, implement and document training to meet regulatory requirements or company objectives for occupational safety and health.
  • Implement and direct the division's safety, health, and fire prevention, policies and procedures.
  • Assure compliance of Georgia Worker's Compensation law, Federal Occupational Safety and Health law and regulation and corporate policy.
  • Liaison for safety and health consultants, federal and state safety inspectors, insurance and other contracted services.
  • Prepare and interpret monthly inter division and corporate safety and health statistical reports and analysis.
  • Coordinate required Process Safety Management Programs for the division.
  • Specify the type of personal protective equipment required and insuring it meets appropriate requirements such as OSHA, NIOSH or MESA may mandate.  Ensure that equipment is cleaned and maintained as required.

You’ll be someone who can bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Engineering, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field 
  • This position requires a proactive, visible leader who can influence at all levels of the organization, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster a culture where safety is a core value. 
  • Professional safety and/or industrial hygiene certifications strongly preferred (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST, CHMM, or equivalent) 
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience as a Safety Manager within the pulp and paper, forest products, or chemical industry preferred 
  • Working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation programs, claims management, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated supervisory and team leadership experience 
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively engage employees and leaders at all levels of the organization 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across a variety of settings and audiences 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems
